Our passport for the YEG Food Bike Tour Whether you’re a YEG local or not; it happens each year–the time comes when you need to figure out a gift for your bestie’s birthday. More often than not, I am ashamed to say I ended up grabbing my best friend a gift card to a store I prayed they loved enough that a gift card would qualify as a good gift. Full disclosure, I LOVE gift cards and often request them for my own birthday. But thankfully, my bestie is truly next level and came up with the best birthday idea ever! A few years ago she said she was tired of giving each other stuff and wanted to t ..read more

Getting An Autism Diagnosis: What I Wish I’d Known As a Parent
The Autism Edit
by Kathy

My son’s autism diagnosis happened six years ago this spring. Thankfully during that time I have grown a lot and learned so much. I didn’t handle the lead up to the diagnosis well. It was a trying time, but now I can appreciate that it helped me look inward and was a catalyst for positive change within myself. When an autism diagnosis was difficult for me to accept, I went through a lot of different feelings. I felt inadequate for missing the signs of autism. Like a failure for not asking for help on my son’s behalf sooner. A bad mom because I loved my son, but didn’t want to face that autism ..read more

Getting an ADHD Diagnosis
The Autism Edit
by Kathy

Getting an ADHD diagnosis was not on my radar when I met with my therapist for the first time three years ago. About halfway through our initial session, she asked me if I had ever considered I had ADHD. Honestly, the thought had never crossed my mind. She proceeded to screen me for the symptoms and that was the starting point of my journey to an ADHD diagnosis. Before going any further I would like to remind you that this post is for informational purposes only. Many of you let me know that this information would be helpful to you, and so I am sharing my personal experience with getting an A ..read more

My Honest Review of Every Knix Product I’ve Tried
The Autism Edit
by Kathy

Knix has been my go-to underwear brand for a few years now. From the first pair of underwear, I was hooked! I’ve tried so many of their products from regular undies, period products, bras, swimwear, and most recently, activewear. I am a major fan of a lot of their stuff, but there are a few things that just didn’t do it for me. This year I applied to be a brand ambassador, not really thinking much of it. But when I got the email that I was accepted to their program, I was pumped! If you shop using my link you will receive $10 off your purchase, and I will receive a commission at no extra cos ..read more

Scared about having another child?
The Autism Edit
by Kathy

My husband and I often find ourselves talking about how grateful we are that autism wasn’t on our radar when we decided to have a third child. We were really naive about child development, and it wasn’t until our son’s 4-year check-up that his pediatrician suggested we pursue an autism diagnosis. At that time, I was already seven months pregnant with our third child. That in itself felt overwhelming, but adding a diagnosis of a condition I knew absolutely nothing about was a little terrifying. Now that my daughter is about to turn 5, I can reflect on what this little girl has brought into ou ..read more

Disability Parenting: My Experience So Far
The Autism Edit

Photo by Haley Erdegard When our pediatrician first suggested pursuing an autism diagnosis for our son, I was floored. It was such an overwhelming time for me as a young mother. I didn’t know the first thing about autism, or where to turn to learn about it. That was five years ago now. We aren’t far into the journey, but I’ve learned a lot in that time. In honour of National Autism Awareness Month, here are a few things I would love to share with you. The Biggest Struggle For me this has been knowing he will face more adversity than the average kid. Of course, everyone goes through challenges ..read more
