When I first saw these beautiful Blue Escape Coastal fabrics by Lisa Audit, I just knew I needed to make something with them. Aren’t the colors and prints so beautiful and soothing? It is amazing to me how it’s possible to transform watercolor art into fabric…I have no idea how they do it, but I’m thankful they can! This fabric is just hitting stores, so I’m waiting on my backing fabric to arrive before I get it quilted up. The design I chose for these fabrics is called Double Square. I like how the blocks create the illusion of two squares, hence the name ? By alternating the direction of t ..read more

Modern Puzzle Cushion Cover Tutorial
Material Girl Quilts Blog

We have a favorite cozy pillow on our couch that has been well loved by the humans and dog ;-) The last cover I made for it was looking sad, so it was time to make a new one. I’ve used this pattern before and even had it published in Love Patchwork & Quilting several years ago using some bright green and aqua prints. That version is still being used as a throw pillow on our bed. The finished size of this cushion cover is 24” square, which is a great size for snuggling and using for a nice nap on a Sunday afternoon. It’s also a fairly common size, so not difficult to locate good pillow in ..read more

FINALLY I have my hands on some of the pre-cuts for my latest fabric collection, Sunshine & Sweet Tea. My advanced yardage was supposed to be delivered to me in December so that I could start working on the new patterns for this collection, however it was apparently lost at sea! Although frustrating, I was just thrilled to be able to receive a little bit of the fabric last week so that I can start working on my patterns. This fabric collection will be arriving in stores later this month! The two things (other than my faith) that fuel me and help to get my through my days are Sunshine and ..read more

I have always loved the style and design of the Granny Square crocheted blanket (example shown from the Purple Poncho). And since I don’t crochet (I’ve tried…just doesn’t work for me!!), I decided to create a quilt version, only BIGGER!! Introducing the Giant Granny Square Quilt. The fabric collection that I used for this quilt is called The Old Garden and includes gorgeous florals and fun prints in wonderful earth tones. I think it will be perfect on our bed for the rest of the winter. This collection hits stores this month, so I’m waiting for it to arrive so that I can purchase my favorite ..read more

Old Fashioned Christmas Picnic Quilt

I purchased a quilt kit last year from Shabby Fabrics that was made up of fat quarters from the sweetest Old Fashioned Christmas fabric collection to make the Picnic quilt pattern. I haven’t bought a quilt kit in years because I usually prefer to pick out my own fabrics, but this collection was just too cute not to pass up! I also loved how it looked in the Picnic pattern. Fast forward to this year and when I pulled this out of my stash last week, I REALLY wanted to see if I could get it done before Christmas this year. I had some PTO scheduled for this week, so I decided to go for it! I star ..read more

I finally finished quilting up my second Hexaround quilt that I pieced during the quilt along and I’m in love! The rich colors in this Firefly fabric collection play so well together. The addition of some gold metallic on several prints takes it the the next level. Pinks and purples aren’t my favorite colors, but mixed in with teals, blacks and grays they look fantastic! All of these colors are perfect from my friend who celebrated a birthday this past weekend and she was thrilled to receive this beauty to snuggle with during the winter. I chose the cubism pantograph for the quilting and lov ..read more

Christmas is my absolute favorite and I love to decorate our home for the holidays. Last month I decided that I’d love to create a Christmas wreath quilt and this is the result. What do you think? This project would be perfect for scraps! I have a ton of green and red scraps, but I also had a couple of charm packs that I thought would look pretty all mixed up together, so I cut down those squares to create my version of the Jolly Holiday Wreath quilt. This quilt finishes at 28” square and is the perfect size to hang above the buffet in my dining room as shown above. I debated hanging it ther ..read more

This month’s quilt pattern is one I’ve had on my list to make for some time now. I just love this block and think this pattern would look great in just about any fabric. The Crossroads quilt is a fat quarter friendly pattern and easily adjusted to fit the size you need. This particular version is the throw size that finishes at 58” x 72” and the fabric I used is one of my new favorites called Little Swan. I adore the swan, firefly and tiny floral prints. The colors in this collection are beautiful as well. I decided to do some simple crosshatch quilting (perfect for the Crossroads pattern i ..read more

Glow Up {a fat quarter quilt pattern}

I love Halloween quilts!! Maybe it’s because I love the color orange, but whatever the reason, I seem to want to make a new one every year. I have had this Bad to the Bone fat quarter bundle for over a year now and I’m so happy to finally have it sewn up into a quilt. What is extra special about this fabric collection is that it has some silver metallic spider webs and glow in the dark skeletons and spooky words. How fun is that? With the larger sized quilt blocks and glow in the dark fabric, I figured Glow Up was a perfect name for this quilt. It’s a fat quarter friendly pattern and each blo ..read more
