Over the past few years, the realm of technology has experienced a significant leap forward, thrusting AI into the limelight for the general public. What’s particularly striking is the swift adoption of AI within the AEC industry, a departure from the usual pace of innovation uptake. Many firms are eagerly exploring avenues to seamlessly integrate AI into their workflows. This strategic move is aimed at securing a competitive advantage, whether through the automation of documentation processes to boost efficiency or by catapulting ahead in delivering top-notch design outcomes that stand out fr ..read more

It is a long overdue post, but better late than never we would say!
We are excited to announce that the BIMicon plugin has been updated to version 1.4.0.0. This new update is compatible with Revit versions from 2019 to 2023, ensuring that users can seamlessly integrate the latest technology with their BIM projects.
We apologize for the delay in the update, as our team has been busy with other exciting projects. We understand that our users rely on the BIMicon plugin to improve their workflow, and we promise to do better in the future by keeping the plugin updated in a timely manner.

Before Rhino.Inside Revit came to existence, I worked on a project to panel a 5.000m2 surface that would be the facade of a stadium. The client demanded the panels to be modeled in Revit, so the final geometry had to be handed in native Revit geometry. The approach I took was to panel the surface in Grasshopper, optimize the number of panels in GH with Kangaroo and Lunchbox and finally place the panels as adaptive components in a Revit model with Dynamo. Today, I feel lucky that we have a tool like Rhino.Inside Revit allows us to do all the previous workflow within Revit and GH inside Revit. S ..read more

A few weeks ago, working on a project which has been on the baking for 3 and half years, and was passed on uncountable hands, I found myself in the need to match all the different dimension types. The styles included color, font family, font size, tick extension among others. As you can imagine, my hands refused to do this manually, so here goes automation! But among the many tools available to do it, one new cool kid entered the block: Rhino.Inside Revit.
We know that Rhino is unbeatable when modeling curved geometry, and Grasshopper is beyond excellent for parametric design. But how do those ..read more

During the process of developing a custom family browser for the BIMicon Toolbar, the following question surfaced; how can we classify which family categories can be loaded and which others were system families? In other words, what are the all loadable family categories in Revit? Well, for a quick enumeration I went to Dynamo and wrote a script for just this purpose:
The steps to get these categories are:
Create a Python script to retrieve all family categories that are not system families. This can be achieved with the cladd Family as System Families are not included in it: https://www.rev ..read more

Have you ever wondered why Revit does not include a tool to create floors like ceilings in Revit? It might be that ceilings most likely don’t have to take into account door openings and many others complexities. Well, reasons aside, I wanted to have the same simplicity and swiftness of creating a ceiling translated to floors, so I have implemented a similar approach to create floors in this new tool.
Create Floor Finishes beyond Dynamo
As a continuation of Create Floor Finishes in Dynamo, which is one of the most checked posts about automatic element creation in Revit, I have prepared this ne ..read more

It has been a busy month preparing all the new features we are going to launch at BIMicon. But here are some of the few points we would like to update and share with you:
We have created a new section on our website named Resources. It contains guides and documents to create BIM standards and to optimize workflows. It is updated very often, so keep an eye on it! Also, check out our first post, BIM Naming Convention.
We are redacting the BIMicon toolbar’s documentation. It will facilitate its use and user experience. Also, this will allow volunteers to contribute to the development of this a ..read more

BIM is a disruptive innovation, as it was AutoCAD when released. But here comes a dramatic difference the scope of work that BIM wants to embrace makes AutoCAD pale in comparison. BIM is software aimed to replicate the entire reality of the construction process in a virtual environment. All stakeholders are obliged to input their data into the model, which forces each discipline to talk to collaborate.
Under this perspective, new roles came into existence to coordinate this process and make a successful virtual building called a digital twin. It is a proof of concept, and if the digital model ..read more

A few posts ago, we changed our project to be able to create WPF windows inside it, Class Library to WPF, and today we are taking advantage of it to create our first custom WPF window for user input.
User input to select sheet/s to place active view
In Revit, most of the functionality is determined by user inputting information for the program to process it. It is no different with our plugin.
We will start creating a folder to contain all the classes and resources for our tool View on Sheets, and this is the difference between our previous tools, add a WPF Window.
Once that is done, here is ..read more

Today, we proudly introduce to our readers a new section in our blog: a demanded segment about day to day Revit tips and tricks. This section will help our readers get the most out of Revit with no coding required. For our advanced readers, fear not, this will run in parallel to our programming section. Also, there is always something new to learn from Revit, don’t you think?
Revit Viewport Titles and Extension Lines
When a view is placed onto a sheet, in Revit terminology, the View becomes a Viewport. Attached to this Viewport, is a label, called Title. By default, this Title has an Extension ..read more
