After a year-and-a-half, a Centennial brewery has closed its taps. Kodiac Brewery Bar & Grill at 7685 E. Arapahoe Road had its last day of business this past Saturday, May 18. Kodiac, owned by Raj Chiluka and Nanda Maranani, opened in the 5,200-square-foot space in January 2023. The owners did not respond to requests for comment. Maranani is also the owner of the franchise Indian restaurant Hyderabad House, which is located next door to Kodiac. Ten-year brewery veteran S ..read more

Ask Amy: Family members crowd in too close
The Denver Post » Lifestyle News
by Amy Dickinson
17h ago
Dear Amy: I was adopted as an infant and found my birth mom when I was in my 30s. She had gotten pregnant in high school and gave birth to me at 17. We lived in different parts of the country and after I found her, we saw each other once a year for over a decade until she died suddenly last year. After her death, her brothers and sisters, who I’d only met once before, started regularly calling, sending constant texts and inviting me to family holiday dinners and on family vacations. I don’t feel a connection to them, don’t consider them family, and find it very uncomfortable to be around them ..read more

Ask Amy: Spouses disagree on sharing inheritance
The Denver Post » Lifestyle News
by Amy Dickinson
2d ago
Dear Amy: My mother recently died, and I’m expecting a relatively substantial inheritance from her (my dad died several years ago). My younger brother, also not living, has two adult children. My mother (who was a difficult person) originally told me she intended to halve the inheritance between my brother and me when he was still alive, but after he died, she then decided to pass her entire inheritance to me, giving nothing to her grandchildren (who are my brother’s children). These granddaughters were good to her. My beloved brother always believed in fairness, and to me my mother’s favoriti ..read more

Ask Amy: Single woman doesn’t want to be hit on
The Denver Post » Lifestyle News
by Amy Dickinson

Dear Amy: I am a single woman in my mid-50s. I never married or had children and like it this way. I enjoy people, but am a classic introvert who recuperates her energy by being alone. I enjoy going to museums and restaurants on my own. There is a restaurant/bar right down the street from me that I enjoy going to. Recently, I went to this restaurant by myself and sat at the bar to have a drink and maybe eat something. I wasn’t there for long when a man came up beside me, saddled up, and took up conversation with me. I really didn’t want to talk to him, and I didn’t want him sitting next to me ..read more

Ask Amy: Elder couple is isolated post-pandemic
The Denver Post » Lifestyle News
by Amy Dickinson
4d ago
Dear Amy: My husband and I, along with a lot of other people our age, have not been able to recover from the pandemic. We are both active 75-year-olds and have been married 55 years. It seems like everyone’s forgotten that most people over 65 are retired and have no young children. They don’t have jobs and colleagues to return to. They don’t have young children to keep them busy through school and extracurriculars. So many of the activities we used to participate in have been shut down. Volunteer opportunities and senior lunches have been discontinued. Cruise ships, which are an easier way for ..read more

Former Denver Bronco opens outdoor guide company where people of color are welcomed and represented
The Denver Post » Lifestyle News

Long before former NFL offensive tackle Bobby Massie was added to the Denver Broncos roster, he and wife, Angel, visited Colorado to enjoy the great outdoors. During football bye weeks, the couple often hired a guide to help them explore the state’s best and unsung fly-fishing waters. While the scenery always wowed them, the guiding services did not. Sometimes it was little things, like lackluster bologna sandwiches provided as a catered lunch. Other times, the Massies felt ostracized because of their race. One guide, for example, seemed overtly shocked the couple was Black when they arrived f ..read more

Ask Amy: Parents house violent and irrational son
The Denver Post » Lifestyle News
by Amy Dickinson
5d ago
Dear Amy: After a very difficult divorce and a few years single, I married a wonderful partner last year. He brought his 20-year-old son into the marriage. Since arriving at my home, the son’s prospects have devolved. He quit college. He lost his job. He now sits in his room all day. When he runs out of funds for nicotine or marijuana, he loses his temper and shouts at my husband, demanding money. We don’t know what to do. We fear he is seriously depressed — how could he not be? But at the same time, he is scaring me. His language is violent and his mind seems irrational (he often repeats that ..read more

Colorado’s oldest drive-in theater has changed with the times, but nostalgia still gets top billing
The Denver Post » Lifestyle News
by Tiney Ricciardi

On a crisp Saturday evening in April, Hezekiah Morrison drove his pickup to the Star Drive-in Theatre for a screening of “Kung Fu Panda 4.” He parked so the truck bed faced the screen and lined it with pillows and blankets for optimal comfort. On the side, he hung a vintage speaker box that provided sound to the film. Morrison has carried out this ritual “too many times to count” as a kid growing up in Montrose, and later as a young adult. The first time he took his own ride, sans parents, he remembered feeling a sense of danger. And although Morrison is only 24 years old, he said those nostal ..read more

Ask Amy: Mom’s fibs about sister cause trouble
The Denver Post » Lifestyle News
by Amy Dickinson
6d ago
Dear Amy: Several years back, my sister was in a pretty bad place. She was in her early 30s, still living at home, and didn’t have viable career plans. She desperately wanted to get married and have children, and none of this was working out for her, as she had very little self-confidence. My mother works for my uncle. She has been quite successful. One day she asked me and my youngest sister if we would be OK if she hired my sister as an assistant to help build her some confidence. Of course, we both said yes, wanting what was best for her. The plan worked well. My sister is now married with ..read more
