The earth spins on its axis, it produces night and day. This continual movement, albeit incremental, propels the earth's access into the orbital plane, which results in seasons. Every day, nature gives us a new beginning. Every few months it gives a new season. Why? Because time is fluid. It is a perpetual motion bringing new opportunities for growth. Every second, minute, hour, day, week, month and season is an invitation for change. A reminder to take stock of where we are and make adjustments to propel us to where we desire to be. Take your internal inventory. Are you living the life you ..read more

I EEN ON YA RUN

In the Bahamas, unlike other Caribbean nations, we do not have a patois or a separate language. What we do have, is what I affectionately refer to as Bahamianese; unique words or phrases that only Bahamians or someone familiar with the culture would understand. Buey, boungy, Juicing (not what you think it is), dem, potcake, switcha to name a few. But one of my favorites that so aptly encapsulated the emotion behind it is "I een on ya run". The English translation of this phrase would be, I am ignoring you. I am not giving you any attention. But not being on "someone's run" is so much deeper ..read more

Scotiabank Bahamas: East Street and Soldier Road: I HAVE NO WORDS

I had planned to title this blog expletive expletive expletive, but the visual image of my mother reading that title, while I am sure literally, clutching her pearls, convinced me to change it. While I respect my mother’s puritan sensibility and the fact that she raised me to be a respectful lady. I may just have to disappoint her today because ironically there are NO OTHER WORDS but expletive expletive expletive. But I have created a more “acceptable” expletive "phuckery". Yes, add it to your lexicon. What I have experienced, over the past two days, with Scotiabank Bahamas, East Street ..read more

Happy International Woman's day to all of you phenomenal women. Phenomenal Woman By Maya Angelou Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size But when I start to tell them, They think I’m telling lies. I say, It’s in the reach of my arms, The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It’s the fire in my eye ..read more

HOT PATTIE AND CHOCOLATE MILK

Two seemingly innocuous foods that do not go together at all. There is nothing even remotely appealing about this food combination. Savory, delectable, flaky hot patty with cold chocolate dairy? But Hot Pattie and chocolate milk has been branded into my memory. The insignia of it illuminates one of my fondest memories and perhaps greatest life lesson. I don't know how much you know about "island living" but it is sweet. It is pure unadulterated pleasure at its finest. Being born in the Bahamas, was one of the greatest blessings that God has granted me. The privilege of being reared in ..read more

Yesterday. I took a break. I took a break from life, I checked out. I had an ummmmph day. One of those days when you allow the cares of the world to overwhelm you. When the emotional toil becomes too much. One of those days, when you get tired of stuff. Tired of fighting, tired of "life" and want an escape. One of those days when you are just tired. I am sure everyone has had those feelings, and sometimes it is advisable to check out. To allow yourself to indulge yourself in a moment of despondency, despair, and depression. To sit in that moment of dejection and throw yourself a pity party ..read more

Why Do Bad things happen to good people?

Why do bad things happen to good people, is probably one of the most debated philosophical questions? Why DO bad things happen to good people? If you will indulge me for a few minutes, I hope to skew your stance on that question.    What is a bad thing? Who is a good person? Both of these qualifiers are relative. Is something bad if the ultimate results are "good”? I put it to you that situations are neither bad nor good, but rather neutral. How one interprets that situation will determine, in that one’s mind, if it is a bad or good thing.    When an incident occurs, it ma ..read more

"Someone once told me not to bite off more than I could chew. I said I would rather choke on greatness than nibble on mediocrity" - Unknown "I would rather choke on greatness than nibble on mediocrity". I have always been an avid collector of quotes. I enjoy reading and quotes are just a natural by-product of it. This is one of my favorite quotes. One of the formative quotes that have shaped my life and driven my mentality. This quote is so profound in the obvious that you may overlook it. "Someone once told me". Four pregnant words. What has someone told you? Who is that someone? Should yo ..read more

Every morning it is customary for me to send out an inspirational message to my WhatsApp contact list. You may find this incredulous to believe but I painstakingly post an individual message to all 232 of my contacts every morning. I am sure you can imagine how much time is devoted to this simple act every day. In my effort to become more intentional with my time, I timed it over the past two weeks, on average it took 34 minutes. Can you believe 34 minutes of my morning every day has been devoted to this for decades now? If Mathematics was my forte, maybe I would have been able to tabulate th ..read more

Never give up on your dreams. When people, when life, when circumstances  tell you to quit. When they tell you, you are too old, when they tell you cant do it because of the color of your skin, because of where you were born, because you are a woman. Because no one else has done it before. Because it is impossible. It doesn't matter what anyone else says. As long as you know and remember Impossible means I AM POSSIBLE. Twelve years ago, I had a dream to become a writer. Twelve years ago, I dreamed of publishing a book. Twelve years ago, I allowed my doubts and insecurities to make forfe ..read more
