I want to gift my friend some items that she might find cool that aren't available in Japan. Are there any clothing brands or types of clothes that aren't available in Japan? Does anyone have any recommendations?

My wife is Japanese but we live in the US. When our kid was born everything was incredibly hectic as we don't have family nearby, so we missed the window to register them as a citizen after birth.
We would still like to get our kid citizenship as my wife's family is all in Japan, just not sure what procedure to follow given the circumstances.

Hi! Today is my first day as an expat here in Japan. I was about to politely decline when my colleagues told me earlier that we’ll go out for some drinks tonight because I rarely drink due to health concerns and low alcohol tolerance but, another expat colleague of mine told me that here in Japan, it is offensive to skip work social events.
Is there a cultural expectation to attend all workplace social activities in Japan? Also, I’ll stay here for almost a month so could you please provide some guidance on understanding the customs and traditions here? Japanese are known to be the most polite ..read more
