As September rolls in, it brings along a whirlpool of changes in my investment horizon. The past three months have been somewhat of a still water phase with the S&P moving along sideways. However, I took this time to reassess and realign my strategies, focusing heavily on dollar-cost averaging into Tesla and the S&P 500. Before we delve into the nitty-gritty, here's a glimpse into the significant shifts in my portfolio. Dividend Portfolio Overhaul Earlier this year, I embarked on the journey of rebuilding a dividend portfolio, having picked some winners like the Parkway Life REIT at an ..read more

June, traditionally a quiet month for the markets, held a different narrative this year. As a growth investor, the allure of rapidly expanding, innovative companies is hard to resist. Yet, the most valuable lesson I've learnt on this journey is the importance of patience - not to succumb to the Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) and chase every fleeting opportunity.  In this seemingly boisterous period, my actions remained uncharacteristically subdued. The only significant transaction I undertook was to apply Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA) on Tesla stock and the SPY ETF, a strategy I've consistently ..read more

The Unforeseen Bull Market and My Shift in Investing Strategy Choosing not to follow the traditional advice of "sell in May and go away" proved to be a sound decision. Despite June typically being a weak period for the stock market, we saw an unexpected bullish season, with Nvidia leading the way and Tesla not far behind. This contrasted starkly with 2022 when my stock portfolio took a significant hit due to my ill-timed shift from dividend stocks to growth stocks, right at the tail end of the bull market. As part of my adaptation strategy, I consolidated my portfolio, focusing on stocks that ..read more

Hello Readers, The year 2022 has been a whirlwind, particularly in the realm of investments. Much like the fluctuations of today's tech stocks, my free time has dipped significantly due to increased work demands. This unfortunately led to a hiatus from my blogging and investing activities. However, the silver lining in this scenario was an inadvertent shield from the discouraging tech stock selloff. Now, after an arduous period of work, I'm delighted to revive my blog, enriched with fresh experiences and insights.  Hello, hope everyone is doing fine! The stock market has been bombarded by bad news everyday: the never ending Ukraine-Russia War, Inflation, and surging oil prices. Not only investors feel the heat, even when my kopi takeaway at my favourite coffee shop downstairs price went up from $1.40 to $1.70! Even petrol prices went up to $3/litre, and thankfully I still have some coupons left on my Esso app. Sorry that I have not been updating my portfolio these past few months. Instead of worrying and checking my portfolio daily and feeling demoralized by the drop (which is not fundamentally dr ..read more

It’s been a difficult month for tech investors after Jerome Powell changed his stance that inflation is not transitory. Gone are the days where there was helicopter money leading to invisible hands lifting up stock prices when shares plummeted. Being one who has a basket of stocks concentrated on the tech sector, my portfolio experienced a significant drop in value. However, I am not too discouraged by it because I have learned a lot of valuable lessons in investing last year. And in this blogpost, I will share with you my execution plan. What's Behind the Numbers

I have finally come to the last post for the year. Although my portfolio didn't end too well, I have learned many valuable lessons in investing. I spent the last few months listening to podcasts on investing, and Tesla, and gained priceless insight on how successful people invests- by (1) having a concentrated portfolio (2) doing a deep dive research on companies to build that conviction.  As I have mentioned in my previous blog post, I will gradually be reducing my stock count to 20, or even 15 if possible. At this juncture, growth stocks has entered into an oversold territory and it is ..read more

2021 seems like a continuation of 2020, with the world still dominated by Covid 19. End-Dec is usually the time that I travel overseas to take a break from work for about two weeks. This time round, I didn’t make any travel plans due to the uncertainty in travel restrictions. While being stuck in Singapore for two years, I built better habits and spent more time on reading books, especially on self-enrichment and investing. Although the year didn’t end well for growth investors like me, I did learn many valuable lessons and did some reflection on my progress so far. Many of the small caps grow ..read more

At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, tech stocks were all the rage.  Fast forward 10 months ahead to today, to many investors’ dismay, the opposite became true and tech stocks tumbled. The culprit? Chairman of the Federal Reserve Jerome Powell’s casual dropping of the terms “transitory” to describe the current inflation. Source: https://www.inbitcoinwetrust.net/jerome-powell-finally-admits-that-inflation-is-not-transitory-bitcoin-is-here-to-protect-you-f2445f2b5240 Despite the tech selldown, many believe this is just the beginning, especially since Nasdaq is getting ..read more
