This is the first time I’ve ever cried at a book. And it wasn’t just a few tears, I fully wheeped. I finished the book at about one in the morning and I gave myself an emotional headache, it was phenomenal in every way and I definitely think this is one of my favourite books of all time.  When Wallace Price died he expected his life to end, to pass onto whatever comes next… he didn’t expect to wake up at his own funeral, to meet a young woman who introduced herself as his grim reaper, to be taken to meet the Ferryman names Hugo who is tasked to help him cross over in who owns a tea shop ..read more

Happy New Year!

So we’re at the end of another shit year but I don’t want to focus on that, I want to focus on the good stuff that’s happened this year. I got a new job that I adore and I feel like I’m really feeling like I’m in a good place right now. I know I’ve stepped away from the blog and I’ve been in a terrible reading slump over the past few months but I am trying so hard to make this work more, I want to be less strict on myself while also making more time for reading. I spent a week in Cornwell and that was amazing, to be away for a bit and to go somewhere beautiful. I miss it so much! My reading ha ..read more

I was sent a free copy by Jonathan Edward Durham in exchange for a review but all opinions are my own and true. Also this post will be split into two parts, the first being a spoiler free review and the second part will be a little more spoiler but I’ll let you know where the split is.  I loved this book so much more than I expected to and I’m so glad I agreed to read it. When emailing me Durham said ‘tone-wise it lives somewhere between the wonder of Roald Dahl’s more grounded works and the ‘things fall apart’ chaos of a good Michael Crichton thriller.  Oh, and there’s a liiiiitle S ..read more

It’s a good book. I actually finished this a little while ago and have read the second one since then and thought I was really on the fence about the first time I’ve found a new appreciation for it. That being said, this is just a review of the first book, my review for the whole series will be coming out when I’ve finished the 3rd book.  In a world where death has been conquered and aging is no longer an issue Sythes are given the power to end life. Scythe by Neal Shusterman centers around Citra and Rowan who have been picked to become an apprentice of a Scythe, something they really are ..read more

I loved this book a lot. For a Lesbian I haven’t read a lot of LGBTQ+ books and I really feel guilty about that so this year I’m trying to make more of an effort to read books like this. I hope this is obvious with the other books I’ve been reading lately and with this one.  Shy drummer Charlie sits next to rugby player Nick one day in class, starting a wonderful and very unlikely friendship though Charlie wishes it could be more. While dealing with suspicious friends, rugby practice and awkward interactions with exs, Nick is left questioning himself and Charlie is trying to deal with his ..read more

I can safely say this is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I was so excited to write this review just so I could gush about how wonderful it is, the characters or amazingly written and the story is beautiful. And it’s got an LGBTQ+ relationships in it! There’s just so much I love about this book and apparently a lot of people agree, when I got the book the woman in the bookshop said they were struggling to keep it stocked.  The House in the Cerulean Sea is a charming story about an orphanage on an island full of weird and wonderful kids, from a boy that turns into a dog when he’s scar ..read more

Full disclosure, I was gifted this book by the author though all the opinions in this post are totally my own opinion.  My favourite author of all time is Darren Shan, though really that’s pretty obvious if you know anything about me. I’ve spoken many times about how his books introduced me to reading, I interviewed him in the past and I’ve done many posts about his books. The latest one being when I read the Zom-B series. And here I am again getting the chance to fangirl over his newest series. Archibald Lox and the Bridge Between Worlds, the first book in the Archibald Lox series, follo ..read more

So the past couple of months I haven’t been very active and today I wanted to take some time out to talk about what’s been going on with me and where I’ve been. I know this isn’t like my normal content but I think it’s important to build yourself a safe place to vent and my blog is my safe space! There will be some mention of books so don’t worry about that!  So first I want to mention the namesake of my blog, some of you might not know but Blind Dog Books is named after my very own Jack Russel. His real name is Mylo and he suffers from Cataracts and Glaucoma and sadly we’ve noticed a cha ..read more

The Bookshelf Tag

So it’s confession time, I haven’t written a blog for tomorrow and it’s 9:40 at night so I thought a book tag would be a good idea! I found the Bookshelf Tag on Dreamland Book Blog and I thought it would be fun to go with it. It seems like a really cool tag so I’m excited!  Describe your bookshelf and where you got it from. So I have a white bookcase I got from Argos, it used to have two drawers at the bottom but I took them out to be able to use the bottom of the bookcase as a shelf too. It’s white like most of the furniture in my room and is currently full, some books even stacked on to ..read more

If you’ve been here for 30 seconds you know I love memoirs, I love to hear people’s real world experiences from things like working in the NHS, owning a bookshop or in this case serving time in prison. The comedy is dry and dark, leaving you with a ‘if I don’t laugh I’ll cry’ feeling.  Chris Atkin, an award winning documentary maker, never thought he would see himself behind bars. But after a doggy scheme to fund one of his movies goes wrong he finds himself in the care of HMP Wandsworth, one of the oldest, largest, and most dysfunctional prisons in Europe. Sharing showers and a cell with ..read more
