There are so many stimulating people in my life, and last Friday I was able to share a journey with Chris Phippen, he’s a talented tech star in Exeter and is taking a mini sabbatical. Not a journey for car karaoke* but certainly a great discussion about AI, mindset and leadership theory. Chris recommended a book that he’s devouring called Antifragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. The core tenet of the book is this concept of fragile and antifragile. Fragile items break under stress, antifragile items get better from it. In order for a system to be antifragile most of its parts must be fragile. Mos ..read more

What does it take to lead transformation?

Here’s a look into one of the biggest and most complex transformations I’ve ever led. In a previous role, before the pandemic, I led a family doctor business supporting over 40,000 patients. We'd been highly innovative and had adapted our teams to be as diverse and efficient as they could be but the fact of the matter was that with rising demand and limited resources we couldn't keep up. One summer, we were poorly struck, and three doctors were suddenly out of action due to physical health. We tried our best to plug the gaps, but non-urgent care delays had stretched to five weeks! We knew that ..read more

In Summer 2021, I’d been asked to co-host a Clubhouse room (remember those?) on AI and Ethics. As someone who is tech curious and with extensive experience in leadership, power and politics I jumped at the chance. The Global AI Collective was launched as a joint platform for me and for @Sabrina Sidl from the US. As we gathered momentum, so the suggested tools came flooding in.   I started working with a chatbot called Emerson from Quickchat AI and ShortlyAI as a non-fiction writing tool. Both powered by GPT3. The results were powerful – so much so that I bought a voice skin so that ..read more

Let me set the scene—a crisp, cold, dark Sunday evening in Rome. I’d travelled with my 12-year-old son to watch England play rugby. This was our first international trip with just us. In my excitement and frugality, I hadn’t planned the logistics well, and we were due to return to the out-of-town airport at half-time.   All that way to leave at half-time!   I regularly travel for business, so Apple Maps is always my best friend in this situation, and I found a solution that meant we could buy ourselves another 20 minutes—allowing us to watch more world-class rugby and miss the ..read more

Bamboo teaches us to stand tall and proud, even in the face of adversity. To align with our values is to stand tall in our beliefs, even when the winds of change are stormy.  This month on our podcast - Exponential Potential, Jennifer and I have focussed on alignment as a topic with guests covering many aspects – how to tap into your purpose and values to live a more authentic life. How you can find allies through a network, and how you can use that compass to help you grow in your career.   I love the spinoff of the podcast – it allows me to examine some of the more human elements o ..read more

Ok, so the title was tongue-in-cheek. Last time, I brought you details of the AI tools that have been getting me excitable about progress and the future. I've spent a lot of time this week with ChatGPT, especially trying to understand how the new tool can help me write python code to write new tools that can help accelerate my work. Dizzying, eh?! Suppose you've had a chance to read any medium articles at AIBotCoffee. In that case, you'll have learned how the technology has been incrementally growing over time and that we shouldn't be surprised by the leaps – instead that we should be getting ..read more
