“I’m so sorry, but he is gone.” fell on deaf ears as I held my baby close.  “We did everything that we could, Ma’am.” I could barely understand the words they were saying to me.  My healthy, 29 year old husband who moments before was watching a movie with me…now lay dead on the living room floor. What the actual fuck am I to do now? Though many people make it to gereatric years before they have to call themselves a widow(er), I was not so lucky. At 27 years old with a brand new baby, my entire world had been turned upside down. However, life keeps moving even when yours stops. Th ..read more

Skiing in Colorado has always been curious to me… but due to the photos with huge piles of snow, I had never really considered it an option for vacation…until recently.  My late husband was from up north and he loved to go snow boarding, in fact I remember when we were in college sitting outside of of the Katahdin Ski Lodge up in Maine while he went skiing with his buddies. Why I sat outside in the vehicle reading all day I’ll never know, but I think it might of had something to do with being a broke college student. Lodge amenities are expensive when you’re on that kind of budget!  ..read more

Beer Snob /Beer Snaab/ – Noun: One who refuses to drink crap beer. I am that mom. You know the one. The one you see at all the family gatherings with a beer in her hand and although I love some good wine (prosecco!) …craft brews really have my heart. Sullivan and I have traveled all over the world, and everywhere we go we are always looking for a new brewery to try. Me, the flights, and him…the snacks! Tucked back inside the industrial area of North Charleston, lives one of the original Charleston craft breweries, Holy City Brewery. Started back in 2011, this family friendly brewery began wi ..read more

But first, Prosecco. Have you even been to Italy? Charleston’s newest Italian restaurant is reminiscent of the upscale, yet casual restaurants we found while living in Rome one and half years ago. Complete with the same family friendly social experience, the comforting hospitality of the owners and staff makes you feel like you were invited right into their home… and you truly never want to leave. Throughout the city streets of Rome, in the back alleys and more (like our favorite area, Campo di Fiori – put it on your list!) you will find restaurants just like what co-owners/husband & wif ..read more

So. Many. Cute. Things. I was in awe as I looked around this popular kids boutique, known for it’s whimsical and unique kids clothing. Immediately, I saw so many things I just “needed” to get for Sullivan! We were greeted by masked employee upon arrival where Sullivan was invited to play in the kids corner while I looked around. The new shop on Coleman Boulevard is much bigger than the old shop, but the selection is still as hand picked as ever. Moving shop locations during a pandemic hasn’t been easy for this working mom of 3, but the owner Gabby blew me away with her optimism and excitem ..read more

What exactly are we doing? Every business, family and individual has been grossly impacted by the current pandemic. Something we thought was going to be a sprint turned into a marathon with currently, no end in sight. At Skip & Sully, we want to be the local family you can rely on for honest, open communication and connection and for many, the “unknown” is the most frightening part of this pandemic. We are experiencing a severe lack of useful information to help us make the best decision for our families; while at the same time enduring a complete overload of panic inducing data that is co ..read more

You know us as Charleston’s only luxury indoor playground and parent’s club but we are so much more than that. We focus on building relationships through the connections and love you experience with each other through play dates, date nights, camps and so much more.  We are meant to be a safe space for you and your family. This not only means emotionally & spiritually, but physically too. When I was in the initial design phase of the Skip & Sully Club, I approached it through the eyes of a parent trying to protect my toddling child, who a mere month ago was still crawling. The des ..read more

“My dada? My dada work?” I hear these questions from the backseat as we drive home from running errands. “My dada come home now. Pease?” …And it is in this moment that it take everything I have to not burst into tears right behind that wheel.  “I wish he could come home baby, but daddy went to go live with Jesus up in heaven, in the sky, ” I respond, almost choking. “Oh, my dada in sky with Jesus.” “Yes, baby.” Then I can feel the tears begin to run down my face, thank goodness for my huge sunglasses to hide behind. I want him to see emotion, but I haven’t processed this yet. I can’t ..read more

I am afraid.  I hold my tiny baby close – nursing him, rocking him in the chair that you built for us. My mind begins to race, as I feel my heart rate increase rapidly. How am I going to do this alone? How am I going to survive with a new baby? I can barely take care of myself with the pain I’m in from labor, how do I ensure our baby is safe and taken care of?   You see tears begin to well up as you watch my eyes darting back and forth. You know my mind is racing as you come over and lay a hand on my shoulder.  “I don’t think I can do this alone!” I cry out to you, as the tears ..read more

“What am I thinking…this is a terrible idea…”  The words muttered by every mother with a young child as they proceed to pack everyone’s bags for the next family vacation…and if you’re anything like me it’s followed by explicates as you try to zip those overstuffed bags shut…  Just after Sullivan’s 1st birthday I packed us up to fly halfway around the world to spend almost two months gallivanting around Europe. Was it scary? Yep. Did I do it?  Absolutely.  And you can too.  Some of the most intimidating things about traveling with tiny humans are:  1. What in ..read more
