Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans ~ Proverbs 16:3 On Sunday I was reminded that we cannot order our plans, for we do not know what tomorrow will bring. The scriptures say our life is like grass, the wind blows over it and it is gone (Psalm 103:16). We make plans, but our life is gone before we know it, and our plans have not come to fulfillment for one reason or another. Even when we have good intentions with our plans, we do not know what may come up the next day which will take us away from our plan. Here we are told to commit to the Lord whatever we do ..read more

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and fortress, my God, in whom I trust” ~ Psalm 91:2 There is only one place where I can run to in complete knowledge of safety – that is to run to my God. We are living in what seem to be more precarious times in 2022. The past two years as a world we have dealt with Covid-19, and now we look at a world which has a possibility of more violence than what we have encountered since WWII with Russia and its invasion of Ukraine. The world is turning more upside down than it has for many years. Am I afraid? I cannot say that I am for myself, yet I know as I ..read more

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth ~ 1 John 3:18 How blessed we are that we follow a Lord who loves and teaches us to love not only with words but with actions and with truth. In our world there are those that believe in karma – what I do will come back to me. If I do good, good will come; if I do bad, bad will return. The love of God teaches us something very different – love no matter what. Jesus said if we love those who love us, we gain no credit. If we love our enemy, our reward is great. Throughout Jesus’ lifetime, he showed us how to love ..read more

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? ~ Psalm 42:2 My soul thirsts for God! What a beautiful expression of the needs of the psalmist for his God. He is dry and parched and only the living God can satisfy his needs! We hunger in this world. We hunger for fame, for financial gain, for prestige, for love, yet in its hungering, the world continues to seek it in wrong places. The world longs for deep needs to be filled, yet enough is never enough. It baffles me why the world is so bent on turning away from God instead of toward him. But when we read the Bib ..read more

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near ~ Isaiah 55:6 I cannot imagine when the Lord cannot be found, for I know his presence to always be with those who follow and love him. Isaiah knew though that there were times when the Lord could not be found – that is, when sin entered into a life. We who believe and have received Jesus Christ as our Saviour need not worry about the Lord hiding from us, for he paid our sin price on the cross, redeeming us from our sins. The Israelites did not have the ongoing presence of God’s Holy Spirit within them which is the power we hav ..read more

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast ~ 1 Peter 5:10 As I look out my window the winter winds are whipping around the snow in a frenzy of circular paths. One moment the winds are to the east and the next to the south, seeming to have no fixed pattern. All outside seems confused as to which way the snow must blow. Inside my apartment, I am warm and protected from those winds which flit about on the other side of my window. This would be the ideal wa ..read more

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare ~ Isaiah 55:1, 2 The prophet is calling his fellow people to come back to what will really satisfy – the Lord God. Until a people do that, they will always be searching in the wrong areas for their fulfillment. We are people just like those is Isaiah’s day. We hunger for a be ..read more

Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honour ~ Proverbs 21:21 If our heart is set on goodness then what will follow will be blessings. It follows naturally. If we pursue what is evil, what will follow will be evil. We see this all the time in life. Those who turn toward a life of crime find themselves in prison, or under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and their life is ruined as well as the lives of those around them. The other day my daughter, who lives in another city, witnessed an incident with a man who was attacked outside her apartment building. He had ..read more

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much ~ Luke 16:10 This is a matter of character. If you are given a small task and complete it faithfully, not only are you rewarded internally, but your manager or boss will see that you are trustworthy. I know a young man who recently started a job and works hard. He volunteered for overtime when others in his workplace did not, he made sure he was there everyday when others took time off, and it has paid off for him. He is now in line within a very s ..read more

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing ~ John 15:5 I love this verse as it literally shows how our connection to Christ works in life. When we remain in him its like an IV inserted right into my vein with his life-giving resource. I am fed the nutrients I need to survive through this connection. If I pull the IV plug out of my arm, I will fail in health, but if I allow the medicines to continue to flow into me I will get stronger and stronger. Jesus tells us without him we can do nothing. How the world ..read more
