Welcome to the second blog post inspired by the book The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell. In my previous blog post I summarized the learnings from the first seven laws of leadership. In this article I am going to address laws 8 to 14. Ready to continue on our leadership journey? 8. THE LAW OF INTUITION Leaders Evaluate Everything with a Leadership Bias. John C. Maxwell, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership Intuition is hard to explain because is not tangible nor based on facts. Intuition is more an art than a science, it is the capability to read out the situation ..read more

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership (part 1/3)
A Feeling of Symmetry

I find leadership fascinating. It’s hard to define, but so easy to recognize. Think about history makers (Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi…), giants of industry (Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk…), sport champions (Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Diego Maradona…). What does it mean to be a leader? In his book The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, the author John C. Maxwell shares universal laws that great leaders have in common. When I think about good leaders I have met in my private and professional life, I realize that they were indeed mastering many of these laws. In th ..read more

The Johari Window Model
A Feeling of Symmetry
by Simone Fontanesi

In this blog I share an interesting exercise I have done together with a friend of mine, using the so called Johari window model. The goal of the exercise is to improve the perception you have of yourself and others. Hence it is useful both for your self development and for team working and collaboration. THE JOHARI WINDOW MODEL The Johari window model was developed in 1955 by the American psychologists Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham (the word Johari is a mix of their first two names). Sometimes this model is also denoted as feedback/disclosure model of self-awareness. The model consists of four ..read more

The minimalist spontaneous combustion rule
A Feeling of Symmetry
by Simone Fontanesi

Whenever I clean up my house, I realize that I have way too many things. Some are useful and enjoyable, others have no purpose and instead of helping, just clutter my space and my mind. I have spoken about this topic in a previous article, where I explained how my wife and I both failed and succeeded at the 30-day minimalism challenge. In this blog post I share another interesting minimalist idea I got from episode 312 of “The Minimalist Podcast”, the so called spontaneous combustion rule. This rule, helps you to be less attached to material stuff and let it go. The spontaneous combustion rule ..read more

What you think you want VS what you really want
A Feeling of Symmetry
by Simone Fontanesi

When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety; if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without pain. From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me. There is a great secret here for anyone who can grasp it. A Feeling of Symmetry

It’s been about ten days since I came back to work after two months of paternity leave. One of the most common questions I have received from my colleagues, friends and family members in these days have been: “How was it?” My short answer: “Great!” In this blog post I reflect on the time I spent at home with my daughter and share three lessons I have learned during my paternity leave. What are three lessons I have learned during my paternity leave? Picture by Claudia_Felbermayer by Pixabay.1. Mindfulness is a moment-to-moment awareness of one’s experience without judgment. In this sense, mindfulness is a state and not a trait. While it might be promoted by certain practices or activities, such as meditation, it is not equivalent to or synonymous with them. American Psychology Association In the last weeks I haven’t felt that mindful, instead I’ve felt a bit mind-full. There are a few things I need and want to do, which somehow keep me busy and prevent me from fully being in the present moment. When I live in this state, it happens more often to forget where I put stuff. As I often ..read more

True prosperity
A Feeling of Symmetry
by Simone Fontanesi

One week ago a relative of mine suddenly died. He had lived a good life, with children and grandchildren. His unexpected departure caused grief and sorrow in some of my family members, and I fully understand that. At the same time, I hear about innocent children dying due to war and illness and think of the suffering of their parents. The two things combined reminded me of a Zen story, which makes you reflect on the natural course of life and explains the meaning of true prosperity. As usual, you can find different versions of the same story online, I have chosen the one from this site. FATHER ..read more

About responsibility
A Feeling of Symmetry

Responsibility simply means your ability to respond. If you decide, “I am responsible,” you will have the ability to respond. If you decide, “I am not responsible,” you will not have the ability to respond. Sadhguru, Inner Engineering If I see an Indian guy with a long white beard and the word “Guru” in his name I usually become suspicious. But Sadhguru is different. If you watch some of his talks on YouTube, you really sense this guy has a deeper understanding of life. I have decided to read one of his most famous books, called Inner Engineering. I have to be honest, I liked the book but was ..read more
