Sabrina Pérez (C’24) (left) with her mom, Samara Perez. When Sabrina Pérez (C’24) graduates from Georgetown in May, she’ll no longer be the first person in her family to graduate from college. Her mom did two weeks earlier.  For the past four years, the mother and daughter have experienced college together, 14 hours apart. At the 2023 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the night’s headliner, comedian Roy Wood Jr., brought Gabe Fleisher (C’24) as a special guest. Amid Hollywood celebrities, U.S. senators, representatives and political pundits, Fleisher stood in line for a photo op with Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, who is also a Distinguished Visitor from Practice at Georgetown Law. In April, Georgetown hosted two events to support Afghan women and girls’ access to education and advocacy.  The U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council, based at Georgetown University, recently launched a university collective to magnify scholarships and logistical support for Afghan refugees and students. And the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) hosted its third annual retreat for Afghan women leaders, most of whom were forced to flee Afghanistan in 2021 after the Taliban took power.
