Recently, I was contacted by Ocusleep, makers of Ocusleep glasses, and asked if I would review their product. So, for the last couple of weeks, I've been giving them a try. Here's how they have worked for me. OCUSLEEP GLASSES Ocusleep glasses help to block the light coming from our electronic devices like our phones and tablets. The bright and, most importantly, direct light coming from our devices directly into our eyes- inhibits melatonin production - the sleep-promoting hormone our body makes to help us fall asleep. Wear your Ocusleep™ glasses 2 hours before you go to sleep. Once you put t ..read more

I'm home from vacation! I enjoy going on a vacation, but I love being home more. Do you? Do you live a life you love or one you want to escape from? I hope it's the first. I hope you answered "Yes!" that you love your life. If you did, I'm happy for you. However, for many people- they don't. They don't wake up every day feeling excited about a new day. For many (many) years, I didn't enjoy mine. I dreaded going to work. I dreaded driving in traffic. I dreaded coming home to have to cook and clean and do #allthethings. I even dreaded grocery shopping (as a single momma- I didn't have much mone ..read more

When my health first started to deteriorate, I continued with my ‘normal’ way of living. Even though I was gaining weight rapidly, was tired all the time, and had many other issues- I kept on eating, thinking, and doing things the same way. I was frustrated with my weight gain. I wanted things to go back to the way they were before. I wanted people around me to stop doing what they were doing, which stressed me so much. (The unfair things. Things I didn’t sign up for. Things that, by their actions and choices- my life was affected. Can you relate?) Until one day, I finally got the revelation t ..read more

Faith-Based Fact-Based Let me explain. When my nurse practitioner agreed to write me a prescription for a natural thyroid medicine for the hypothyroidism (low thyroid) I was experiencing, she said, "you'll probably not get any better. You may continue to be tired all the time. But this may help," and shrugged her shoulders. She was wrong about me not feeling better. She was wrong about ... The fact that I had anxiety that flipped into the 'on' position, and I couldn't turn it off. My hair continually falling out and thinning. (Thank you, Ancient Nutrition & Multi-Collagen Protein!!) Evidence-Based If that title grabbed you. You just may be boundary-less. Think of healthy boundaries as a fence around your yard. The fence clearly defines where your property starts and stops. Keep reading. Boundaries are game changers. Life Savers. For reasons beginning in my childhood, I learned to be nice. Good. Compliant. Over time, that became my default personality. It was OK until someone else's actions, desires, needs, wants, etc., clashed with mine. Instead of assertively expressing my desires, needs, wants, opinions, concerns… I would get angry (hello passive-aggression), pout, whin ..read more

I have had a very stressful life- starting in childhood. Chronic stress and traumatic events can set someone up for negative thinking. It's a challenging cycle to break. Retreating into one's mind and rehearsing past painful situations or creating new scenarios can help one feel in control when everything around feels out of control. However, those negative thoughts are harmful to our health. I used to be a negative thinker. I dwelt on #allthethings that had happened, might have happened, and what I should have done about it. By the time I got to work or home, I was fussy and difficult to be a ..read more

The Stress-Metabolic Syndrome Connection

During my health crisis, I had what’s known as Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic Syndrome is a combination of high triglycerides, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar. It takes a multi-faceted approach to reverse Metabolic Syndrome. One of the ways is to eat lower amounts of carbs (carbohydrates) to help reduce blood sugar (glucose). My Nurse Practitioner, said I needed to lower my blood sugar. She wanted me to eat only 90 grams of sugar a day. Ok, no big deal. I thought, “I can do this.” Until something stressful happened. I turned to sweets- not drugs. Not overspending. Not excessive exerc ..read more

Evidence and Science Based* I recently came across this ,quiz. Ok, it was last night. I did the quiz last night. After taking the quiz, I skimmed my results. I waited to read the results this morning because I didn’t want to take a chance of being triggered right before going to sleep last night. After reading my results this morning, I ordered the book, and read the first part of the book (on the free download) all within an hour. I’m amazed at the insightfulness that the little quiz brought. I read the reviews for the book and jumped right in. My book should be here tomorrow! I can’t wait. I ..read more
