The Ghee Spot

Not snacking isn’t an option, and neither is eating kale. So I say toss the poo and make yourself some delicious healthy Punjabi snacks. I wish I was a kale eater, I am not! I cannot stress that enough. I’ll eat it if I must but it is not my idea of a snack or an acceptable answer to, “What should we eat?”. I need snacks that are flavorful, satiating, and honestly, just not airy rabbit food or hippy dippy nonsense like rice cakes with a tablespoon of cottage cheese. I’m a big eater and I need snacks that are filling and handle that desire of wanting junk food. So if you’re like me, these heal ..read more

When a quesadilla and a parantha meet, falling in love is inevitable. As is the parantha quesadilla that follows a few months later. I travel a lot for a living, and one thing anyone that travels 50% of the year will tell you is that you to have a routine! Whether it’s how you pack, unpack, travel, sleep, whatever, there is a specific way to do things. It is the right way, the only way, and the most logical way. So, I too have a travel routine. The minute I get into my hotel room, I do my pants off dance off, order a steak quesadilla with extra chili peppers and a coke (with extra ice), put o ..read more

Crispy, crunchy, with a sharp flavor. Air fryer karele chips are fast, easy, and delicious. I love karele in any form. So it’s really no shock that I pop them in the air fryer and use that as an excuse to eat more karele. What I love best about these amazing air fryer karele chips is that they have all that standard and traditional goodness that you want in your karele, but have the addition of the spice and tanginess. If you like karele, this will be one of those snacks that you think about in your lonely hours, and make often. With summer perpetually around the corner, it’s time to shed th ..read more

Grilled pineapple is just so effin fabulous! I think the first time I had grilled pineapple was at a Brazilian steak house, and I swear it blew my mind! Pineapple, with brown sugar, grilled? BRILLIANT! It was a bit of a why haven’t I don’t this yet moment for me. Now, regardless of occasion, any time I find a ripe pineapple I bring it home and grill the sucker. It’s a great and mildly healthy dessert option for kids or adults. It’s quick and easy – no grill – no problem, bake it. Perfect for summer cookouts or picnics. It’s so yummy and goes with just about anything. I like it on pancakes, o ..read more

It’s straight gajrela dreams here. Fall or winter, you need this delectable delight. Creamy, fresh, warm, and sweet, gajrela is the best dessert you could ask for. It’s a bit time consuming but well worth the effort. I find that there are certain foods that are easy to describe and others that are so simple that it’s nearly impossible to capture them in entirety, this is one of those dishes. Just a few simple ingredients, butter, carrots, milk, sugar, cardamom, and almonds, yet together it’s the perfect melange of flavors, textures, and sentiment. Warm spiced nummy nums! Gevulde speculaas are exactly what the season calls for! Tasty holiday delights is what I’m all about. Well, sort of. I’m one of those that doesn’t like overly cinnamon-y spiced desserts. But throw in some cardamom and ginger, and you got a stew going…well..gevulde speculaas. It always seem like the holidays sneak up on you, no matter how much you prepare. Mind you, I’m one of those crazy people that does her Christmas shopping in October, and they still sneak up on me. Perhaps, it’s just that it all goes too fast. Chalk it up to being an old person that now says, “Me ..read more

Roasted Bell Pepper Soup w/Serrano Crème Fraîche

There are soups and then there are soups. There isn’t anything that rivals this roasted bell pepper soup w/Serrano crème fraîche! I like soup, I mean who doesn’t really like soup? But this soup is the one that I pull out when I’m trying to impress the pants of people, literally and figuratively. Didn’t think there was a soup that was good enough to talk a man out of his pants? Well there is. Then again, you can give an average man hot ham water and an oyster cracker and he’ll take his pants off. Perhaps this is not the best comparison, but the roasted bell pepper soup w/Serrano crème fraîche ..read more

Papdi

Papdi is crispy, fried, crunchy, savory, and amazing! I love this crispy crunchy snack. Normally, I’m very anti ajwain, can’t stand the flavor of it. However, in papdi or mathi it just works. The best part of this snack is that (when made properly) it’s not oily at all, despite being fried, which actually makes it light and airy. These delightful little crisps can be had as a savory side to tea and coffee, and of course it’s best use, the base of your papdi chaat. There’s no big secret on how to make these. Just make sure that your oil isn’t too hot or cold. The best way to test oil temp is ..read more
