Let’s take a look at every player in camp and see what their goal will be for this season, and camp.
The Washington Mystics are in training camp right now for the 2024 WNBA season. Roster cuts are still a week or so away, but we can reasonably assume which players will be franchise cornerstones, key contributors and more based on the type of contract they have.
Yesterday, we went over the questions each of the Mystics’ cornerstone players face. Today, we will focus on players who expect to make the rotation, though they aren’t goi ..read more

Here’s a selection of social media posts from Media Day.
The Washington Mystics hosted Media Day yesterday at the MedStar Health Performance Center in Congress Heights. Diamond Holton and I had a chance to take part virtually but couldn’t make it to D.C. due to day job commitments.
Here are some of the highlights on X from the big day.
The virtual press session
Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post was able to get many snippets from the front row. Here is Head Coach Eric Thibault laying out the goals for the year.

Washington Wizards guard Jordan Poole | Photo by Stephen Maturen/Getty Images
Stats, analysis, commentary.
The season Jordan Poole had for the Washington Wizards defies explanation and conclusions. He was shockingly awful at times, downright great at times, and every now and then, something in between.
While I was cooler on Poole’s abilities as a player than many, I thought he’d shown enough with the Golden State Warriors to be a relatively low-risk bet for a rebuilding team. He probably wasn’t going to become or lead the league in scoring, but he also probably wasn’t likely to just plain suck ..read more

Most season ticket holders will be in a seat that is an equivalent to where they sit at Capital One Arena. Those who sold their tickets on the secondary market could be in a tougher spot.
On Friday, the Washington Mystics sent an email to season ticket holders that their seat locations have been assigned for their June 7 game at Capital One Arena against the Indiana Fever. For the most part, ticket holders received a seat that was similar to their location at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Also, fans who bought their seats directly f ..read more

Liberty wing Kyle Rode drives against Charlotte | Photo by Mitchell Layton/Getty Images
Rode performed well at the recent Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.
Kyle Rode, a 6'7, pure-shooting wing, just completed his fifth season at Liberty University. This past season he averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He made 39% of his 8 three-point attempts per game. Rode was also an 80% free-throw shooter for his career.
Rode can flat out shoot the basketball and that, along with his basketball IQ, has garnered interest from NBA teams and enabled him to receive an invite to the recent Ports ..read more

Washington Wizards rookie Bilal Coulibaly | Photo by Joe Murphy/NBAE via Getty Images
Full transparency here: I wanted the Wizards to snag Bilal Coulibaly in the 2023 draft when I did a preliminary run of my stat-based draft analysis tool — Ye Olde Draft Analyzer (YODA for short). Let’s just say he popped in the numbers.
Additional analysis bumped him down a little because he played a chunk of the season for his parent franchise’s under-21 team. Still, the final grade in YODA said Coulibaly was worthy of being a top five pick in nearly any draft. The Wizards traded up a spot to select him seve ..read more

Washington Wizards forward Deni Avdija didn’t win the 2023-24 NBA Most Improved Player award. Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey did. However, Avdija still got some love by placing sixth in the vote for this award.
