Denver stayed at pick No. 12 and grabbed 2024 first-round QB Bo Nix instead of moving up for one of the five quarterbacks taken before him. Broncos HC Sean Payton loves Nix as a prospect, and Nix will look to prove his new coach right.
“First and foremost, it’s just a huge honor,” Nix said, via the team’s YouTube. “He could have picked anybody else in this draft, and he chose me. With that comes great responsibility and it’s one that I can’t take lightly, and I won’t take it for granted. It starts with the next best thing I can do. I’m about to finish this press conference, and then go ..read more

The Denver Broncos are hosting LB Ty Summers for a tryout at their rookie minicamp, according to Mike Klis.
Summers, 28, is a former seventh-round pick by the Packers in the 2019 NFL Draft out of TCU. He signed a $2,617,904 rookie contract with the Packers following the draft.
He was waived by the Packers and subsequently claimed by the Jaguars, who waived him as well and placed him on their practice squad.
The Saints claimed Summers off of the Jaguars practice squad back in 2022. He returned to New Orleans last year on a one-year deal and has been on and off of their roster.

After the fallout with QB Russell Wilson this offseason, the Broncos stood pat at pick No. 12 and selected QB Bo Nix in the first round. Denver GM George Paton believes Nix is more game-ready than the other quarterbacks in the class.
“You look at it, it’s hard because this is new but 24 years old is not that old for football,” Paton said, via Mike Klis of 9News. “You evaluate it but you’re really evaluating the player, you’re evaluating the person. Evaluate how they fit in with the organization, especially for a quarterback. To me the age, they’re going to be more, especially with a gu ..read more

Mike Sando of The Athletic cites an anonymous NFL executive who is confident first-round QB Bo Nix will be great in HC Sean Payton‘s system.
“I’m betting on it (succeeding) heavily,” an executive said. “Bo has experience, he has enough arm talent and I think he is going to do what he is coached to do. Sean Payton’s system is optimal for him. Bo is not going to go off-script as much as Russ was going to do. Look, I don’t want him to be successful, but I think he is going to be legit there.”
Another executive reiterated Nix will do well under Payton, who has a proven ability in grooming ..read more

After the Broncos selected 2024 first-round QB Bo Nix in the draft, many have compared him to HC Sean Payton’s former QB Drew Brees. Nix spoke about being honored by the comparison and touched on the importance of continuity.
“I grew up watching Drew Brees, I grew up watching Coach Payton coach,” Nix said, via the team’s YouTube. “I watched their Super Bowl. … Whenever you’re compared to a guy like Drew Brees, it’s an honor just because of the success he had and the career that he had. So all it is just talk. I have to go out there and continue to do things just for the respect of that ..read more

Undrafted free agency is an important part of the team-building process. From a pure numbers perspective, the NFL has to rely on undrafted free agents to compromise somewhere between a quarter and a third of all active players — not even counting practice squads. There were 257 players drafted last month and at least that many, probably more than 300, will be signed as undrafted free agents.
That makes undrafted free agency a potentially important source of talent. Ninety percent of these players will be cut and wash out of the NFL in a few years. But there will be a couple dozen who sti ..read more

Broncos HC Sean Payton said QBs Zach Wilson and Bo Nix are “going to compete” for the starting job and they had genuine interest in Wilson.
“These guys are all going to compete,” Payton said, via BroncosWire. “We were really happy to bring Zach on board. There was no specific timing, that just took a little bit of time. In other words, George [Paton] and Joe [Douglas] with the Jets have been working on that. So it wasn’t a smoke screen. I know when we signed him it was closer to the draft. It very well could have been three weeks ago.”
Payton said they considered the upside with ..read more

2024 first-round QB Bo Nix addressed his criticisms through the pre-draft process regarding his arm strength and touched on how he feels he can make every throw.
“Quite frankly, I completed a lot of long ones, too,” Nix said, via ESPN’s Jeff Legwold. “I don’t mind when people go back and watch the film. They can see everything they need to watch. That’s here and gone. I’m excited to be here now and do whatever I need to do to win games. … I’ll do whatever the coaches ask of me and do it at a high level. I know if you do that — statistically speaking watching other guys in the lea ..read more

According to Chris Tomasson, the Broncos will not pick up the fifth-year option on recently acquired QB Zach Wilson.
Tomasson notes that the team has already picked up the fifth-year option on CB Patrick Surtain, worth $19.8 million for 2025. Picking up the option for Wilson would have cost the team $22.4 million for 2025.
Wilson, 24, was a three-year starter at BYU and a first-team All-Independent League selection as a junior. The Jets drafted Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft.
Wilson signed a four-year, $35,150,680 contract with the Jets that includes a $22,924,131 ..read more
