Undrafted free agency is an important part of the team-building process. From a pure numbers perspective, the NFL has to rely on undrafted free agents to compromise somewhere between a quarter and a third of all active players — not even counting practice squads. There were 257 players drafted last month and at least that many, probably more than 300, will be signed as undrafted free agents.
That makes undrafted free agency a potentially important source of talent. Ninety percent of these players will be cut and wash out of the NFL in a few years. But there will be a couple dozen who sti ..read more

According to Aaron Wilson, the Jaguars are hosting free agent CB Jerry Jacobs for a visit on Tuesday.
Jacobs, 26, went undrafted out of Arkansas in 2021 before catching on with the Lions and making the 53-man roster ahead of the season.
He played out his standard three-year undrafted rookie contract and was slated to be a restricted free agent in 2024, but Detroit declined to tender him a contract.
In 2023, Jacobs appeared in 15 games for the Lions. He recorded 55 total tackles, two tackles for loss, three interceptions and eight pass deflections.

According to Michael DiRocco, the Jaguars won’t pick up the fifth-year option for QB Mac Jones.
This does not come as a big surprise, as Jacksonville announced earlier this week they were picking up the options for QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne.
Jones, 25, took over as the starter for Alabama in 2020 and led one of the best offenses in school history. He was a consensus All-American as a redshirt junior and won the Davey O’Brien Award before declaring for the draft. The Patriots took Jones with pick No. 15 overall in 2021.
Jones signed a four-year, $15,586,353 contract with t ..read more

This locks both up for the 2025 season on fully guaranteed contracts.
The Jaguars have opened extension talks with Lawrence and this should not prevent those from continuing.

According to John Oehser, Jaguars GM Trent Baalke says the team will pick up the fifth-year options on QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne.
It was obvious that Jacksonville would pick up Lawrence’s option and both parties are still looking for a long-term deal which both Baalke and HC Doug Pederson have discussed.
Lawrence, 24, was a three-year starter at Clemson and a first-team All-American as a junior and ACC offensive player of the year in his final season. The Jaguars selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Tom Pelissero reports the team will also send Jacksonville 2025 third and fourth round picks.
Turner, 21, was a consensus first-team All-American for Alabama in 2023, as well as the SEC defensive player of the year and an all-conference selection.

Tony Pauline reports that the Colts are looking to use their first-round pick on an “offensive playmaker.”
