God doesn't need to "prove" Himself to anyone. God is Who He is. It is WE who need to discover how God's love is steadfast, how He is always trustworthy, and the myriad of ways in which we can rely upon Him, regardless of the situation. Jesus went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax booth. “Follow me,” he said to him. And he got up and followed him, leaving everything behind. Then Levi gave a great banquet in his house for Jesus, and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting at the table with them. But the Pharisees and their experts in the law complained to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus answered them, “Those who are well don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to re ..read more

LORD LORD
God Matters Most

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do what I tell you?” (Luke 6:46) It was customary in Jesus’ day to address a man of stature as ‘lord’. The bible versions often differentiate respected men from Jesus by the use of ‘lord’ vs. ‘LORD’ (or, Lord). However, in this verse Jesus is quoted as repeating the term. This was a way of emphasizing the importance and credibility of the person; in this case, Jesus Himself. Basically, it’s as if Jesus is saying, “Why are you making overtures toward Me as if you consider me God’s messenger, but then you don’t even follow My lead?” We can imagine Jesu ..read more

Courage in the Face of ________
God Matters Most

(you fill in the blank) Ever lack the courage to do something? Even when you had the capacity? Most of us have had to face a difficult person, a threatening situation, or a troubling decision with peculiar courage. If you’re anything like me, at times you’ve found your courage seemingly non-existent, or wavering at best. That said, have you ever given any thought to the amount of courage that Jesus had to lay hold of in order to do the things he did? Sadly it’s too easy for us to think of Jesus as a ‘superman’ of sorts (which is a terrible analogy any way you cut it!). When it comes to some of ..read more

Despite His humble beginnings, born in a manger, surrounded by shepherds, His birth was not without unprecedented grandeur and eternal forethought. Scripture tells us: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in ..read more

God Matters Most

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:14 Boy, do we love the words of the heralding angels on the night of our Savior’s birth! Peace on earth! Peace. We all need it, want it, and desire it deeply. Regardless of who we are, what we do, or where we live, we long for genuine peace. Thanks be to God that the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) came to dwell with us, bringing peace. After all, it’s what His title signifies. God’s kingdom is all about peace, and He sent His Son (the Prince) to declare heavenly peace. But, then, what do we do with this ..read more

“LORD, bind my heart to the fearing of Your name.” — Psalm 86:11 This little verse speaks volumes to me. Our hearts are not to be trusted. I am well aware that many, many people—Christians included—are prone to rely on their own hearts to guide them through the situations, trials, and perils of daily living. But, God’s word warns us that this should not be so. Consider these verses… The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? — Jeremiah 17:9 (Jesus said) “From within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murd ..read more

The book of Ephesians is all about Christ’s church (hereafter referred to as the Church). Perhaps more specifically it’s all about human relationships as they should be in Christ. Of the various kinds Paul talks about, the Church is the most important relationship we can have with Christ, or one another for that matter. Let’s explore the concept of the unity we can have in Christ as Paul depicts it in Ephesians. Here’s the full passage well look at, then we’ll break it down. Now being in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. F ..read more
