Colts Mike Sando of The Athletic cites an anonymous NFL executive who thinks the Colts took players with “big upside,” like first-round EDGE Laiatu Latu and second-round WR Adonai Mitchell. “Indy has a pretty solid roster but needed more difference makers, so this year they went away from what they’ve done in the past,” an executive said. “They took risks with big upside. Latu has Joey Bosa-like hand usage and the best tape of any edge rusher in the draft, but the neck is a concern. AD Mitchell is as gifted as the top three wideouts even, but there were some concerns. On paper, Indy got tremen ..read more

Colts Heading into the season, the Colts have question marks in the secondary as CB Kenny Moore and SS Julian Blackmon are the only sure-fire starters. Indianapolis DC Gus Bradley repeated the word consistency as what will determine the rest of the starters. “It’s really wide open,” Bradley said, via Paul Bretl of the Colts Wire. “Now we got Dallo (Dallis Flowers) coming back, and JuJu (Brents) and JJ (Jaylon Jones), so I really like that part of it. I think for us, it’s the skill set, the length, the speed, now it’s just the consistency.” “Who’s going to step up and be that guy that takes the ..read more

Colts The Colts gave QB Anthony Richardson another weapon by adding second-round WR Adonai Mitchell. Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter profiled what he likes about Mitchell and how he fits in next to other WRs Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Alec Pierce. “He’s dynamic. The guy gets open,” Cooter said, via JJ Stankevitz of the team’s website. “There are a lot of routes against tight coverage, against different types of coverage. Those guys at Texas do such a good job offensively – Sark (Steve Sarkisian) and all those guys. AD was put in a position to win some one-on-ones and he won a bunch of them ..read more

Undrafted free agency is an important part of the team-building process. From a pure numbers perspective, the NFL has to rely on undrafted free agents to compromise somewhere between a quarter and a third of all active players — not even counting practice squads. There were 257 players drafted last month and at least that many, probably more than 300, will be signed as undrafted free agents.  That makes undrafted free agency a potentially important source of talent. Ninety percent of these players will be cut and wash out of the NFL in a few years. But there will be a couple dozen who sti ..read more

Colts Colts GM Chris Ballard vehemently refuted reports revolving around rookie Adonai Mitchell‘s character concerns. “I read some of the bulls— that was said,” Ballard said, via ESPN’s Stephen Holder. “Excuse my language. Our typical league — unnamed sources, bad interviews. That’s such bulls—. I mean, it f—ing is. It’s bulls—. Put your name on it. I’m tired of it. We tear these young men down. These are 21-, 22-year-old young men. And can people out there tell me they’re perfect in their lives? It’s crazy. It’s crap. This is a good kid.
