Scotland brought home the bronze medal from the World Senior Women’s Curling Championship 2024 held in Oestersund, Sweden. Karen Kennedy, Gail Thomson, Ali Cunningham, Gillian King and Margaret Richardson went unbeaten through the pool games and quarter-final. They bounced back from missing out to eventual champions Canada in the semi-final to dominate versus Switzerland and clinch bronze. From Monday 8th – Friday 12th April Easter Camp was once again held at Dumfries Ice Bowl and Lockerbie Manor. This was the third successive camp at Dumfries and Lockerbie, and the second to be held during Easter. This year 20 young curlers aged between 12-18 were welcomed to camp for a full on week of curling and outdoor activities. The schedule for each day consisted of campers participating in both on and off ice sessions at Dumfries Ice Bowl, while working on different areas of the game including sweeping, balance, tactics and the rules of the game. This season Scottish Curling welcomed the first cohort of the new look Future Leaders programme. With the programme now complete for the season, we look back at a jam-packed schedule. Many congratulations to Islay McKenzie and Sam McConnachie (Dewars. Perth) who came out top at the 2024 Scottish Junior Mixed Doubles Championship. They beat Cara Thomson and Arran Thomson (Dewars, Perth) in the final to lift the trophy. Both eventual finalists competed in Section A. While Thomson/Thomson won their first three games, McKenzie/McConnachie made it two successive wins before losing out to Tia Laurie and Jack Halliday (Dumfries). The Scottish Curling Academy is inviting applications for both athletes and coaches for season 2024-25. Applications are open from Friday 29 March to Friday 12 April at 5pm. The Academy this season will be an Under 21-based programme. Junior curlers are encouraged to submit an application by filling out the form here.
