*GUEST POST So you’re planning a trip with your furry friend and made a reservation at a pet-friendly hotel – awesome! Except, what exactly does it mean to stay at a pet-friendly hotel? Traveling with a pet can be a fun adventure, but it helps to spend a little extra time preparing for your trip so things go smoothly for you and your companion. This means looking ahead at what items your pet will need along the way and asking questions about accommodations. We’ve listened to pet owners to hear about their experiences with pet-friendly guidelines and important questions to ask pet-f ..read more

Are you interested in adding a new member to the family? Congratulations! The process of finding your perfect match can be an adventure with so many options to consider… Should you adopt or connect with a breeder for your pet? Is there a specific breed that fits your family and lifestyle best? Are you unsure which breeds you should consider and which would be better avoided? While I firmly believe that ethical breeders play a valuable role in preserving the dog breeds that we all know and love, I also believe that many animal lovers can find their perfect match waiting for their forever home i ..read more

*GUEST POST Chihuahua socialization is a hot topic, and something owners stress about getting right. I get lots of enquiries from dog owners who brought their pups during the lockdown and worry that the lack of socialization is contributing to their chihuahua’s behavior issues. Chihuahuas often bark at other dogs. Lunging and spinning on the end of the lead, having a full-on meltdown at other dogs, people and things that look out of place. Walks can be messy, embarrassing, and anything but relaxing. It’s no wonder chihuahua owners are keen to get the socialization right. Not all chihuahuas bar ..read more

Earlier this month (April 7-9), I had the opportunity to attend the Canadian Pet Expo. Marketed as “Canada’s largest indoor family pet festival,” this show provided an opportunity for business owners in the pet space and loving pet parents to come together and celebrate the animals that hold such a special place in our hearts. While there is no denying that my husband and I had a lot of fun while attending the event, pet shows and festivals like this are also great opportunities to see what is happening in the pet industry. Last year I shared the trends I discovered while attending SuperZoo 20 ..read more

While we would love to believe that the world of animal rescue is black and white – you are saving lives, making a difference, and making the world a better place, this isn’t always the case. Recently, there has been much chatter about the darker side of animal rescue, also known as “retail rescue.” But what is retail rescue, and how does this hurt the overall rescue movement? As a rescue pet blogger and life-long rescue advocate, this is one topic that I simply couldn’t gloss over and ignore. Taking advantage of well-meaning adopters is NEVER okay. In this article, we will dig into the questi ..read more

*AD – Gifted This post contains gifted items. All opinions shared here are my own. I’ve previously discussed the challenges that are faced by pet owners like myself while working at home with dogs, but what about our feline friends? When you work from home with cats, you will be presented with some unique challenges. As many of you know, I work from home full-time as a freelance writer and content creator with three dogs and two cats. Some days, working with pets around can be challenging, especially with cats like Pippen in the mix. My business partners at BlogPaws could tell you that Pippen ..read more

The use of muzzles for dogs has long had a negative connotation. People see a muzzled dog and instantly jump to conclusions about that dog’s training, behaviour, or level of care the owner provides. But the truth is that with proper use and muzzle conditioning, this can be a valuable tool for both safety and health reasons. I do not deny that there are some situations in which a muzzle is misused. It can do more harm than good if it is left on for an extended time, used when unsupervised, ill-fitting, or a source of stress. In this article, I am going to help break through the misconceptions a ..read more

It’s a topic that has been gathering a lot of attention recently in our area of Ontario, Canada. There has been a growing number of coyotes spotted in urban areas. Unfortunately, for our pets, this means that the risk is higher than ever of falling victim to a coyote attack. As responsible pet owners, it’s our job to take steps to protect dogs from coyotes and prevent problems from happening. Are Coyotes Dangerous to Dogs? When it comes to coyotes and dogs, there are several risks that you should be concerned about. This includes not only the possibility that they may attack your pets but also ..read more
