Netherlands beat Wales, 10-3, in the women’s gold medal final of the European Curling Championships 2024 C-Division in Dumfries, Scotland. In the men’s final, Bulgaria defeated Israel by 7-4. These results mean that Netherlands women and Bulgaria men will participate in the European Curling Championships 2024 B-Division. Ten women’s and seven men’s teams competed in the Dumfries Ice Bowl from Sunday (28 April) until Saturday (4 May). Brother and sister Isabella and Rasmus Wranaa won gold for Sweden at the World Mixed Doubles Championship, beating Estonia by 8-4 in Saturday afternoon’s final. Estonia started with a steal of one in the first end, but the Swedes turned the tables after that, scoring two in the second end, and then stealing one more point in the third for a 3-1 lead. It was a golden Canadian double at the World Senior Championships as both their women’s and men’s teams won their finals. The women beat Lithuania by 7-3, while the men took their title with a 4-3 last-stone win over United States. Norway beat Switzerland by 6-5 on Saturday morning, to take the bronze medals at the World Mixed Doubles Championship 2024. Norway opened with last-stone advantage and took an early 1-0 lead in the first end.  Then, in the second, Switzerland’s Briar Schwaller-Huerlimann could only score one point rather than the two she was looking for, when her hit-and-roll attempt went too far. Estonia will play Sweden in Saturday’s gold medal final, after they both won their semi-final games on Friday. Estonia beat Norway by 8-6 while Sweden were 6-3 winners over Switzerland. With the exception of New Zealand, the team with the longest journey home from the World Mixed Doubles Championship will be Australia.  But when it comes to the length of the journey being travelled to be competitive enough to get onto this stage in the first place, the Australians win hands down. After five days of round-robin play, the women’s teams at the World Senior Championships played their quarter-finals on Thursday evening. Following these game, the semi-final stage is set. In the quarter-finals, Switzerland faced Sweden, and won a tight game by 8-7 to move onto the semi-finals.
