Ranking all 32 NFL teams (including the Vikings) by strength of schedule

The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a disappointing year that started with so much promise but ended like a Six Flags attraction. Unlike the Six Flags legendary food pass, there wasn’t much to be excited about once Kirk Cousins went down because Justin Jefferson was also dealing with some lingering injuries. All those injuries meant we saw more of Jordan Addison, who did well, but we also saw a rotation of quarterbacks who won’t be starting anywhere in the league this year. In 2024, the team will be using a lot of their 2024 NFL Draft class as they look to start developing the franchise’s fu ..read more

Day one of the Minnesota Vikings rookie minicamp has wrapped up, and it was quite the day for the 2024 NFL Draft class. Coach Kevin O’Connell, J.J. McCarthy, and Dallas Turner all spoke to the media. They gave us some insight into how the day went both on and off the field, as well as a preview of what their expectations were for camp. The 2024 NFL draft was less than a month ago, but the work has just begun for the incoming class. The Minnesota Vikings kicked off their rookie minicamp and while the headlines are J.J. McCarthy and Dallas Turner taking the field for the first time, it’s not the only noteworthy thing to come out of the first day. Today, the Vikings announced they have reached contract agreements with three more members of their rookie class: offensive lineman Michael Jurgens, kicker Will Reichard, and defensive lineman Levi Drake Rodriguez. The #Vikings have signed draft picks OL Michael Jurgens, K Will Reich ..read more

It seems like just yesterday, we were watching the 2024 NFL draft with bated breath, wondering how things were going to play out for the Minnesota Vikings. Were they going to be able to get their quarterback of the future? Were they going to have to trade up to do so? Would they be able to keep their second first-round pick, and if so, who were they going to take? Now that we have those answers in the form of quarterback J.J. McCarthy and EDGE Dallas Turner, it’s already time for them to get to work. Rookie minicamps have started across the league — including in Minnesota — and we finally have ..read more

ESPN names first-round pick a best fit with the Vikings
Vikings Wire
by Trent Knoop

The Minnesota Vikings drafted two players needed for the franchise to take the next step. Both appear to be heading into the correct spot for their talents. Edge rusher Dallas Turner is a good fit for a Brian Flores-led defense, and Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy should excel in Kevin O’Connell’s offensive scheme. ESPN’s Matt Bowen wrote an article about which players are the best fit for their new NFL team. Bowen included McCarthy on his list. In Kevin O’Connell’s system, McCarthy will be set up to throw with consistent rhythm on defined concepts, especially to the middle of the fie ..read more

Harrison Phillips sees departure of Kirk Cousins as a 'huge loss'
Vikings Wire
by Andrew Harbaugh

When the Vikings and Kirk Cousins parted ways, people knew some of that leadership would be missed. Speaking on NFL Network, Vikings defensive lineman Harrison Phillips spoke to NFL Network about it. “There is going to be a huge loss. One of the most humble guys that I’ve ever been around. To ask one person to fill that void is probably not probable. . .” All things @Vikings related… DL @horribleharry99 caught up with @Mike_Yam pic.twitter.com/yjZrc93ZSh — NFL Network (@nflnetwork) May 9, 2024 Phillips also discussed how while the team has no abundance of All-Pro players or Pro Bowlers, the ..read more

Where did CBS Sports put J.J. McCarthy in their QB power rankings?
Vikings Wire
by Trent Knoop

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports released his first quarterback power rankings heading into the 2024 NFL season. It’s hard to judge where the Vikings should slot in because, as of now, we have no idea who’s going to suit up in Week 1. Will it be Sam Darnold, the former No. 3 overall pick, or will it be J.J. McCarthy, the No. 10 overall pick in last month’s draft? Benjamin thinks the Michigan product has the best situation heading into his rookie season. Benjamin didn’t include Darnold in his power rankings, but he did put McCarthy at No. 25. Unlike Caleb Williams, McCarthy isn’t even guaranteed to ..read more

2025 NFL mock draft: Defense dominates, quarterbacks fall
Vikings Wire
by Andrew Harbaugh

The 2024 NFL Draft was less than a month ago, but the league never sleeps, and neither do their scouting departments. The 2024 draft cycle was dominated by quarterbacks but in 2025 the defense makes its return to main stage. It took defense until the 15th overall pick for it to even make an appearance in last month’s draft. Next April, depending on who makes the selections, it could easily be the first and second overall picks. Knowing who is worthy of those selections is why we do these mock exercises nearly a year in advance. Something we are adding to these selections in the mock draft is ..read more

2025 NFL Draft Summer scouting report: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona
Vikings Wire
by Andrew Harbaugh

Summer is the most pivotal part of scouting for both teams and fans. The idea is to educate yourself on the players who could be selected in next April’s draft and who could play for or against the Vikings.  The latter part is critical to our Summer scouting here on Vikings Wire. The Minnesota Vikings and General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah only have three picks in the 2025 NFL Draft heading into the Summer. More could be acquired through trade or the compensatory variety, but for now, that is all the ammo they have.  The lack of draft picks means this series will focus on the player ..read more
