A gem of the Ligurian Coast In the summer of 2009 my mom and I were only days from embarking on our first trip to Italy together I received the call that my dad had to have emergency heart surgery. His triple bypass was a success, dad was ok (and still doing well by the way), but we had to postponed our trip at the time. When rebooking the online, I stumbled upon the enchanting seaside retreat of Sestri Levante. Sestri Levante is located on the northwestern coast of Italy in Liguria, nestled at the base of mountains between the village of Portofino and famous towns of Cinque Terre. Sestri Le ..read more

A few weeks ago I traveled out to Utah on a quick ski trip. On this trip, I was reminded just how important it is to have great girlfriends, and being open to new adventures and making new friends. On this trip, my girlfriends introduced me to my new favorite cocktail, the French 75. It would be a nice addition to any NYE party, so I wanted to share in a quick post. Ingredients 1 ounce gin 1/2 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed 1/2 ounce simple syrup 3 ounces Champagne or Prosecco Garnish: lemon twist Steps Add the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice and shake until well ..read more

Today was officially sweater weather here in Central Florida, with a cool chill in the air that I love for my longer runs. I have been really busy the last several weeks, and fall caught up with us quickly with the holiday season well on its way. I’ve been enjoying Max’s soccer games, had a few trips to Disney, went to a fall festival and took the kids tubing last weekend. I haven’t had a proper getaway with the kids for a bit, but I wanted to share a few photos just the same showing what we’ve been up to this fall. Real blog post coming again soon, promise! Tubing at Kelly Park with Max and ..read more

When in Rome… a few different ideas for how to explore the eternal city in a new way

I first visited Rome when studying abroad over 20 years ago, using Lira to buy my first train ticket there. Years later, some things have changed but most have not. While you can visit many of many famous sites in the city over a day or two such the Colosseum, Vatican, and Trevi Fountain, I encourage you to slow down and take a little more time to absorb the essence of the city. On this trip, my friend Nicole and I slowed down the pace, met new people, enjoyed casual walks, and began to truly appreciate the essence of the city in a way I hadn’t experienced before. I love to watch the city wa ..read more

Last weekend I took Mila tubing at Kelly Park / Rock Springs Park in Apopka, just north of Orlando. These natural springs include a tubing run that is 3/4 of a mile long, and includes a swimming lagoon area near the middle. Kelly Park / Rock Springs 400 E Kelly Park RD Apopka, FL 32712 There is a small cave at the head of the spring, and the water is rather deep where you jump in, but pretty shallow for the remainder of the run. The water is a 68-72 degrees year round and is a beautiful blue green color. You can see fish and turtles swimming along side you (but the cool water is said to kee ..read more

The kids and I visited Washington DC this summer, and since then I’ve had a few folks ask me what it was like to go with little ones. Below I’ve included a few ideas about what to see and do in DC with your children (mine are 5 and 2 for reference). 1. Smithsonian Museums. The Air and Space Museum and American History Museum were big hits with a 5 year old. Watching Max realize the spacecrafts were real was so cool. He loved seeing all of the old cars and a few Muppets on display too. We wanted to also hit up the Natural History Museum to see the dinosaurs, but it was closed on the days we we ..read more

Hiking Central Florida’s Black Bear Wilderness Area Trail

Someone recommended the Black Bear Wilderness Trail in Sanford to me a while ago, but I’ll be honest, the notion of running into a bear scared me a little. I finally mustered up the courage to hike this trail on my own last weekend, and my only regret was not doing it sooner. I got there shortly after sunrise. If you are taking 429 north, it takes you almost to the trailhead, you just take a left on Michigan Avenue and follow the signage. Trailhead: 5298 Michigan Avenue, Sanford, Florida 32771 I was glad I arrived early because it took a few hours to complete this 7 mile loop, and it start ..read more

Ciao tutti! Finally, two of my very favorite things together – Disney and Italy. Disney and Pixar’s Luca will be available for steaming at home on Disney+ this Friday, June 18th! This feature film is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. The name of my blog is Prosecco and Palm Trees folks, so you have to know this is right up my alley. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend on the Italian Riviera, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from an ..read more
