A Year in Photos
WB Wellness

As I contemplate and reflect on the year past, I find it difficult to summarize the entirety of a it. And how could I really? Life is not merely the big moments, the achievements, the milestones. It is the day-to-day moments, the inconspicuous ones, the ones that we might pass over thinking they don’t impact us, but truly, they matter more than anything. And so I will not try to capture my year in a handful of words, but I will share moments of my year in photos. A chosen few from each month gone by, with a few inspiring words to pair. January January brings the snow, makes our feet and finger ..read more

Winter in November
WB Wellness

While snow in November isn’t at all unusual here — this year, it felt like we rushed into winter rather quickly. From a very extended summer to a rather short autumn, we jumped right into the snow and arctic cold. It has been a strange and unpredictable year for weather and at this stage, I am learning to roll with it. The first snow is always magical, and this day didn’t disappoint. I love that first glimpse of the frosted hillsides and pillowy trees. Everything was calm and quiet — one of my favourite things about the snow is how it muffles sound, it is something incredibly special about ..read more

A Challenging Autumn
WB Wellness

Autumn in my area of the world is one of my favourite seasons. Mostly because it’s usually dramatic and moody; days filled with rain and fog and a snow line creeping down the mountainsides. This year, however, we experienced something else entirely until quite recently — an extended period of dry, warm and sunny weather. I am someone who loves the rain, yes, but mostly I enjoy weather that changes. Getting stuck for too long in one pattern leaves me feeling stagnant and uninspired. It isn’t abnormal for us to have warm days in fall, we can have lovely weather in October. But this year, we ha ..read more

A Love for All Things Moody
WB Wellness

I’ve been holding onto hope for most of September. I’ve been hoping and waiting and wishing for that autumn shift in the weather. You know the one — when the sunny days get cooler, when it rains a little more often, when the fog flows through the trees on the mountainside. I’ve been waiting for the magic, the mood, the invigorating feeling of change that comes with new seasons. But it seems I will be waiting a little while longer. The truth of the matter is this – summer has not let us go quite yet. Just a day or two ago, we hit a soaring 28°C and we have been settling in the mid-20s most ot ..read more

A Fairy Forest Adventure
WB Wellness
by Whitney Barkman

A short 30 minute drive down the highway, and I encounter what can only be described as a fairy forest. Moss-drenched trees, meandering streams, and musical birdsong greet me as I step into this forest reminiscent of Jurassic Park or Fern Gully. The first time I explored this forest — so close to home and yet never entered in all my 30+ years of living in this valley — I was overwhelmed. There was too much to look at; it was new to me, it was different from my ‘home’ forest, and I felt unsettled and unfocused. There was so much green. Everywhere looked like moss had been poured over the top ..read more

The Spring Melt Begins
WB Wellness

Spring has finally arrived here in the forest. The snow is melting with the warmer temperatures we’ve had, arriving with rain and a day here and there of sunshine. I am so happy to see the dirt and moss beneath my feet as I wander through my favourite forest. Though we still have a fair amount of snow, it is disappearing quickly. New Growth As much as I appreciate things from every season, the vibrant greens of the forest forever capture my attention. I often return to old photos to indulge in the greens I love so much when winter drags on. So I am beyond excited when I can capture new photo ..read more

An Unusually Mild February
WB Wellness

Here we are in February; experiencing quite mild weather and I’m certainly not complaining. The forecast ahead is hinting at sunshine and temperatures above 5°C, which for this time of year, is just beautiful. A few weeks ago, we had a few days of freezing temperatures, which were enough to give the snow a nice crust over top — allowing a greater freedom of movement through the forest. And an eerie foggy morning provided the perfect setting for some moody photographs. There’s this tree in the forest… This has quickly become one of my favourite trees in the forest behind my house. With it’s cu ..read more

Moments of January

Winter walks aren’t always easily accomplished in my neck of the woods. This year in particular saw large amounts of snow deposited upon us throughout December and early January. Despite finding incredible beauty in the falling snow and the pillows that form as it collects, it limits where I can explore and how far I can wander into the forest that I love. We recently caught a little break in the heavy snowfall. Warmer temperatures and some rainfall have compressed the deep drifts, opening up a little more of the landscape once again, while providing my raindrop-loving soul with some delightf ..read more

Why I No Longer Call Myself a Content Creator

Some articles may contain affiliate links, which means that I may earn a commission if you purchase through them, at no extra cost to you. I never link to anything I don’t use and love. Read my full Disclaimer for more information. I have disliked the term content creator since the day it started becoming widely used. Anyone from influencers to youtubers to bloggers became content creators, and I begrudgingly lumped myself into the category, never savouring the feeling those words left on my tongue. In itself, the term is harmless, just an easy way to categorize what many people do now in a p ..read more
