Matt Vierling’s three-run bomb was the difference tonight, but the defense and Jason Foley kept things interesting.
Tonight was Dan Dickerson Bobblehead Night at the ballpark, and for 6.5 innings, it appeared as though our dear friend-of-the-site Dan would receive a dud on his big night. Thankfully, Matt Vierling knows how to celebrate, and Jason Foley didn’t go full party-pooper. Detroit wins, 6-5, and evens the series with Kansas City.

This was a really good pitching duel until Tyler Holton crumbled to dust in the ninth.
This was a tense 1-0 game all afternoon, but the Tigers bullpen went full Chernobyl in the ninth inning to blow any chance of a comeback and then go on to turn this into a rout for Kansas City.
For seven innings, we got an excellent pitching duel between two of the highest spin breaking ball pitchers in the game. Reese Olson’s slider and Seth Lugo’s power curve both regularly crack 3000 rpms. Olson has a bit more velocity and a far better changeup, but less experience. Me ..read more

Scores, news, and notes, from around the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Thursday, April 25, 2024.
Worcester Red Sox 7, Toledo Mud Hens 5 (box)
The Hens dropped a tough one to break their losing streak. They led most of the game, but the bullpen collapsed in the top of the ninth to lose it. Andy Ibañez had two hits in the first game of his rehab assignment as he returns from a hamstring injury.
Brant Hurter got the start, and the Hens gave him an early lead in the second inning. Keston Hiura and Justyn-Henry Malloy led the inning off with singles and Justice Bigbie drew a walk to load the bas ..read more

Keider Montero struggled with his control in Game 2 on Wednesday, but the bullpen was nails and the offense did just enough to sweep the doubleheader.
Montero gave up a walk and a then allowed the runner to advance on a pickoff throw that went wild in the first inning, but he bounced back for a pair of strikeouts to escape. In the second he walked two and was really all over the place, but again slipped the trap. Finally in the third the Re ..read more

The Rays eked out a win in the last game of the series.
The Tigers continued their road trip in St. Petersburg, with a pitching matchup of new Tiger versus former Tiger, with Jack Flaherty taking on the Rays’ bullpen, including Tyler Alexander. The Rays have struggled this season compared to previous years and the Tigers took the first two games of the series and were looking to come away with the sweep, but the Rays weren’t going to make it easy on them.
In the top of the first the Tigers got to Rays’ opener Shawn Armstrong early, as Riley Greene singled to ..read more
