Beautiful Beaufort, SC was just named among the Most Beautiful Coastal Towns in the South by Southern Living magazine in its recently published article, “The 15 Most Beautiful Coastal Towns in the South.” No, we weren’t #1. 2024 Hurricane Season forecast has highest number ever predicted

An above average hurricane season is in the forecast for 2024 according to the prediction issued this week by scientists at Colorado State University. The forecast includes the highest number of hurricanes ever predicted in a forecast by the University since it began issuing predictions in 1995. The prediction for the upcoming season says there will be a whopping 23 named storms and a total of 11 hurricanes; five of which will be at a Category 3 strength or higher. Woods Memorial Bridge to be closed to boat traffic during daily rush hours

The Woods Memorial Bridge opening schedule will be modified beginning March 25 to allow continuous traffic flow during morning and evening rush hours, with some exceptions. “This adjustment to the schedule has been in the works for almost a year. Abandoned and derelict boats have been a chronic problem along South Carolina’s coast, and we’ve seen our share of it here in Beaufort County. Now, DHEC, the Department of Health and Environmental Control, is stepping in with a new pilot program to get rid of them. DHEC is piloting a new Vessel Turn-In Program this summer for eight coastal counties. With hurricane season about three months away, here are the hurricane names for the potential storms in 2024. The National Hurricane Center will release its official outlook on the upcoming season in May while Colorado State University will release its first season outlook in early April. The 2023 season was tied with 1933 for the 4th worst on record, with a total of 20 named storms, including 3 major hurricanes that reached a Category 3 or more.
