We are a little over three weeks away from the 2023 NHL Draft. With trades usually happening closer to draft day than before it, the Flames currently hold the 16th overall pick. The first round of the 2023 NHL Draft will take place on June 28, while the following rounds will occur on June 29.
One player garnering some late first round interest is Lukas Dragicevic, a pure offensive defenceman playing with Tri-City of the WHL. Dragicevic is an incredibly skilled player, always driving play to the offensive zone.

The Calgary Flames finally have a general manager secured in Craig Conroy, which has been huge for setting the tone and tempo of the organization. The next big piece that the team needs to fill is finding a head coach. As the summer wears on, more and more teams will be looking to fill out their benches, limiting the number of options available for the Flames. There are a number of internal and external candidates on the Flames’ shortlist, but one right near the top of the list is Ryan Huska.
Having spent time with both the Flames’ AHL and NHL clubs, Huska has a ton of experience with the tea ..read more

There are still a couple of prospects we have yet to cover that the Calgary Flames might look at drafting at 16th overall. One of those players is Slovakian forward, Samuel Honzek. Honzek’s name didn’t really show up on draft lists until this season. A big part of that is likely his choice to come to North America and play in the WHL this year.

Vincent certainly wasn’t one of the top names on most people’s lists, however considering he’s interviewed for the role, it’s clear the organization is seriously considering him. Vincent may not be known to most fans, ho ..read more

Expectations were sky high for the Calgary Flames going into the 2021 NHL Draft. Not only did they have the 12th overall pick that year, but they also ended up with seven more picks in the draft. This year was expected to be a big one for the team in terms of restocking their prospect cupboards, but between bad picks, bad luck, and bizarre decisions around signings, the Flames now only have four players from that draft, electing not to sign Jack Beck, Cam Whynot, Cole Huckins, or Cole Jordan.
The four that are remaining are first-round pick Matt Coronato, second-round pick William Stromgren ..read more

The Calgary Flames head coaching search is in full-swing as reports have surfaced that the interviewing process has begun with potential candidates. We’ve heard a few veteran names thrown around as potential options, however one of the younger and more inexperienced names that has surfaced recently is former Flame Marc Savard. Not only was Savard’s name suggested as a candidate, it’s now believed that he’s already interviewed for the role.
Marek on Flames head coaching search (32TP): “It sounds to me like Marc Savard of the Windsor Spitfires has already interviewed there”.

Craig Conroy has been the general manager of the Calgary Flames for over a week now, and rumours are swirling about who the next head coach of the team will be. Andrew Brunette, a top candidate for the job, signed on with the Nashville Predators yesterday, so Conroy has his work cut out for him. This is going to be a massive offseason for the team; Conroy has promised to do things a very different way than Brad Treliving, but the work starts now.
Here’s what Conroy has on the docket this offseason, his to-do list for his first year as GM.

When Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, and Nazem Kadri signed long-term with the Calgary Flames last summer it was immediately obvious all three contracts would eventually end up looking bad, but in a darker turn of events than anticipated, two of those three contracts are already looking like some of the worst contracts in the entire NHL.
But I offer you some solace Flames fans. For one of the teams that just played in the Western Conference Final also has two of the worst contracts in the NHL.
