The first round of the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs is officially over, which means we have further clarity on the state of the Calgary Flames draft picks for this year.
Because the Flames made so many trades this season, their draft picks are highly contingent on the outcome of each round of the playoffs.
Here’s an update on all their picks after the Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars advanced to the second round, and the Vegas Golden Knights were eliminated.
First-round picks
The Flames have two first-round picks with conditions in this year’s draft, their own pick and Vancouver’s pick acq ..read more

Up next is Henry Mews. Mews is currently being ranked as a late first round pick and could be a good fit for the Flames with their second pick in the round if they take a forward at ninth overall. As a highly skilled offensive defenceman, he could be on plenty of teams’ radars to close out the first round.

For the second time in his career, Calgary Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane will represent Team Canada in the IIHF World Championship. His first appearance on the team was back in 2021 in Latvia when he was named the tournament’s MVP as Canada picked up the gold medal.
This time around, he’s playing on a roster that looks mightily different.

We are officially under two months away from the 2024 NHL Draft. With the Flames currently holding four picks in the first two rounds of the draft, they’re set to add a huge haul to the current prospect pool. With the team needing help at seemingly every position outside of goaltender, the organization is likely to target just about every position at the draft this year.
With that in mind, it’s worth looking at the last time the Flames drafted each position in the first two rounds of the NHL draft.

After making his long-awaited return, Calgary Flames defenceman Oliver Kylington has been voted a finalist for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. This nomination recognises the player “best exemplifying perseverance, sportsmanship, dedication to hockey.”
Kylington’s a finalist along with Frederik Andersen (Carolina Hurricanes) and Connor Ingram (Arizona Coyotes).
Kylington’s triumphant return
Kylington had what most would call a breakout season in 2021–22. Playing mostly alongside Chris Tanev, the pair was excellent throughout the season and was one of the best pairings in the league in term ..read more

The finalists for the Calder Trophy for the NHL’s top rookie of the 2023–24 season were announced earlier this week, and once again the Calgary Flames did not have a player in the top three of voting this year. Many of us thought there might be an outside chance that Connor Zary might get a nod after stealing the show for the Flames when he was called up in early November, but he was left off the top three.
Despite that, the Flames have a really nice piece in Zary, and he showed loads of potential this year in his first NHL season. Zary is going to be an extremely important player moving forw ..read more
