Calgary Flames Prospect Roundup: Wranglers stumble to end the regular season
The Win Column
by James William
7h ago
The Calgary Wranglers wrapped up their regular season in the AHL with an uninspiring five-game losing streak, capped off with a 3–2 loss to the Abbotsford Canucks. In fact, four of those five losses were to the Canucks, and the Wranglers scored just seven goals over those four losses. Reinforcements have arrived in Calgary! With their respective seasons now over, Parker Bell, Samuel Honzek, Jaden Lipinski, Etienne Morin, and Hunter Brzustewicz have all joined the Wranglers. Additionally, one of the Calgary Flames’ prospects outside of the Wranglers is (back) in action. There’s so much to disc ..read more

Reviewing 2023-24 expectations for each Calgary Flames defenceman and goalie
The Win Column

Yesterday I looked over the expectations I had set for the Calgary Flames at the forward position for 2023–24. A disappointing season filled with more surprises than not but put into perspective the level that the team truly is. The defence and goalies follow a very similar pattern to the forwards. Defencemen MacKenzie Weegar Expectations: 35–45 points, rebuild offence, continue great defensive play MacKenzie Weegar finishes his second season with the Flames being their best defenceman again. Being a big Weegar fan, I figured him getting away from a shutdown role would let him produce more an ..read more

The Calgary Flames as Taylor Swift songs
The Win Column

Welcome, members of the Tortured Flames Fans Department. As you may know, Taylor Swift has finally released her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. Luckily for all of you, the higher-ups at The Win Column have given me the green light to write a Taylor Swift-inspired post. So Don’t Blame Me if this isn’t the content that you are looking for, but let me try and change your mind. It’s been a rough couple of years for the C of Red, and it doesn’t look like it will end any time soon. As the organization enters a rebuild, it will probably be a Cruel Summer for Flames fans, as they have to wa ..read more

Hunter Brzustewicz is joining the Calgary Wranglers on an amateur tryout
The Win Column

The Kitchener Rangers were swept by the London Knights in the second round of the OHL playoffs. With the sweep, Calgary Flames prospect Hunter Brzustewicz’s OHL season came to a close. For the budding defensive superstar, when one door closes, another opens. His time as a Vancouver Canucks prospect lasted less than a full year as he was traded to Calgary. His time in the OHL might just be coming to a close too, as he’s now joining the Calgary Wranglers on an amateur tryout for the AHL playoffs. The Wranglers have added defenceman Hunter Brzustewicz to the roster on an ATO. In addition, goa ..read more

Reviewing 2023–24 expectations for each Calgary Flames forward
The Win Column
by Drew Ostmoen

The Calgary Flames had yet another disappointing season. They missed the playoffs again but instead of being the best to miss like last year, they were the ninth worst team in the NHL. Expectations weren’t necessarily high for the Flames but most were expecting them to bounce back in some way. Looking back, I had set a few forwards to resurge while most were to continue down their career path. The Flames lost players who were and added players who weren’t a part of these expectations. Let’s take a closer look at how each forward fared. Jonathan Huberdeau Expectation: 70–80 points, build 5v5 o ..read more

Breaking down what the Calgary Flames should do with Ryan Huska
The Win Column
by Alex Russo
2d ago
There is no doubt that this season was a disappointing one for a team that thought they would have a bounce back in a major way. From missing out on the playoffs just a season ago by a matter of a couple of points, the team took another step back this year and finished in the bottom ten of the league wide standings. Many thought that after getting Darryl Sutter and his so-called “antics” away from the team and promoting Ryan Huska to the head coaching position, the team would have a more positive mentality, therefore making them a more cohesive unit. That did not happen. It was only Huska’s f ..read more
