For sure, Little Havana is well known as a tourist attraction in Miami, but if you haven't been there in awhile, you're missing some of the new restaurants, bars and shops that have opened. I thought it was time to get a tourism pro who knows not only what's new, but also, the history of the area, some of which came as a surprise to me (as in some of the first residents were from Greece and Syria). So here you have it, a Day in Little Havana, newest in my series - Karen ..read more

It’s almost unprecedented that Mr. W and I find all the dishes we eat in a restaurant exceptional along with the ambiance and service. New Lafayette Miami from the owner of Miami Beach’s opulent restaurant Queen describes themselves as “blending the allure of speakeasy culture with the refinement of European elegance promising an extraordinary culinary journey”. This is no hyperbole. And though they say they’re a steakhouse, you can find more for non meat eaters ..read more

By Eleanor Hoh: As a cooking instructor, I'm always on the hunt for the best Asian markets and there’s a core of really good ones in South Florida. Here are my five “go to” places offering everything from Chinese and Korean to Filipino and Indian. Depending on the place, they sell seasonings, sauces, prepared foods, fresh produce, fresh fish, meats, baked goods, frozen dim sum and in some cases even a place to eat in. My motto is to always eat first, then shop, so I’ve mentioned nearby restaurants to make your shopping experience even more enjoyable! With the growing interest in Asian cuisine ..read more

You may have remembered that I wrote about Capriotti’s which has my favorite sandwich in the world, an Italian submarine (“sub”). The shop started in Wilmington, Delaware where I grew up and, together with Philly and New Jersey are the epicenter of the sub world. It then spread around the country. It’s one of President Biden’s favorite sandwich shops too by the way. Thanks to Instagram I found out they have an outpost in Miami Gardens and a new one in Plantation so off Mr. W and I went. And by the way, they’re offering 20% off on online delivery for my readers, so stay tuned until the end ..read more

Pascal Oudin, Chef and Proprietaire of his namesake Pascals on Ponce, will celebrate the French restaurant’s 25th anniversary in 2025.  He has customers who have been coming for as many as 20 years, and others who are weekly regulars, like the owners of a major insurance company who come every Monday night and bring their own wine in corkage free Mondays. Trained by legends Roger Verge and Alain Ducasse, what’s the key to his appeal or we should say “keys”? (but first, news flash, he’s participating in Miami Spice for lunch and dinner ..read more
