47/49 Crayford lots sold Another busy Sales day at Crayford took place yesterday when 47 of the 49 lots were sold for just under a total of £69,000. As anticipated the top lot on the day was Honestly Norush who recorded a very impressive fastest of the day 23.32 on his first look at Crayford in Trial 6. The September 22 blue dog by Droopys Sydney out of Mon Amie has joined the Ricky Holloway kennels and he looks cut out for the Romford Puppy Cup in a few months time. Norah confirms retirement Norah McEllistrim will celebrate her 50th year as a greyhound trainer by relinquishing her licence. She said: “We are still looking to confirm a date but Gemma (Byford) will take over. It will probably be in the autumn, but we need to get some work done on the kennels and to get assistance from GBGB, you need to have had a trainer’s licence for in excess of three years.” Having taken over from her father Paddy, who had runners at the first Wimbledon meeting in 1927, in 1974, Norah is looking forward to handing over responsibility for the kennel, but will still be a r ..read more

Derby closes tonight It’s Derby closing day. All entries for the Star Sports/Towcester Race Course English Greyhound Derby must be received by 7pm this evening on the appropriate entry form. The event gets underway a week on Thursday (May 23) and concludes on Saturday June 29. At 2pm there were 149 confirmed entries by 2pm today with the track confident that they will make the 192 full requirement. Spokesman James Chalkley said: “The entries are still flooding in. Sunday afternoon was the story of two litter sisters. At Towcester Queen Joni went within seven spots of the track record and became the fastest bitch ever over the Derby course with a 28.67 run. 2002 Wimbledon general manager Mike Raper comes under fire from trainers and the Greyhound Writers Association when he cancels the Derby Lunch. “It has had its day” said Raper who was forced into a re-think a year later. 1987 The Crayford Owners Association have asked members to withdraw runners from the racing strength unless there is a substantial increase in prize money.
