Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood craft a stirring tribute to their special creative partnership on their debut as The Smile. Radiohead fans’ six year wait for LP10 looks no closer to coming to an end in 2022, but their long-standing patience will be somewhat rewarded by the debut of The Smile, a side project that goes further than you might expect towards satiating obsessives appetites by combining the considerable talents of frontman Thom Yorke, multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner for one of the finest alternative rock releases of the year to date. WE - Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire are a shadow of their former selves on an indifferent and unremarkable return. I remember the first time I heard Arcade Fire. The year was 2005, I was in my second year of secondary school and our History teacher Ms. Roland was out sick so we had a free class. I was passed an earphone for a friend's iPod (cheers Luke), he hit play on 'Rebellion (Lies)' and from the very moment I heard that violin solo at the bridge, I was completely hooked. I spent the next weeks cramming all the Arcade Fire songs I could fit onto my tiny Creative Zen MP3 Player before taking the plunge and buying ..read more

Chloë And The Next 20th Century - Father John Misty

Joshua Tillman says 'Goodbye Mr. Blue' with a sumptuous jazz collection on his fifth album as the enigmatic Misty. Will the real Joshua Tillman please stand up? Those tuning in to hear the withering, embittered socio-political commentary that Tillman has made an art of in the past decade as Father John Misty may be astonished by the notoriously world weary troubadour's new lust for life on his remarkable fifth album. Chloë And The Next 20th Century is the closest we've come under the Misty moniker so far to hearing a straight up Tillman record, with the songwriter breaking through his absurdi ..read more

Skinty Fia - Fontaines D.C.

Fontaines write longingly of home on Skinty Fia while truly arriving on the international stage with their most accomplished work yet. Having evolved over the course of the past five years from hometown heroes to international headliners, the third record from Fontaines D.C. finds the band thoughtfully contemplating their Irish identity and the residual guilt that haunts the Dublin quintet for leaving home to embark on their current path to glory. It’s a journey that has been building to this exact point over the past four years, with the band’s third album hitting a lot of the sweet spots fr ..read more

Delusions Of Grandeur - THUMPER

THUMPER more than live up to their moniker on an electrifying and wildly energetic debut. "Rock'n'roll is here to stay" riffs Oisin Leahy Furlong in the midst of chaotic, cocaine fueled diatribe 'Topher Grace' around the midway point of Delusions Of Grandeur, and it's pretty hard to argue with the psychedelic wall of noise that THUMPER power all the way up to eleven throughout the entire duration of an electrifying debut in which the Dublin quintet wield their trio of guitarists and double drumkits with an almighty vengeance. Having steadily built their reputation and cult fanbase through ext ..read more

An insanely stacked February saw big releases from Big Thief, Beach House, Mitski & more. February is getting itself quite the rep in recent years, with this time last year producing several of the best albums 2021 had to offer as the E/O Wrap Up covered a scintillating month that featured Cassandra Jenkins, Slowthai, Arlo Parks, Mogwai and Nana Yamato - all of whom went on to feature in year end lists in December in some shape or form. Needless to say Feb 2022 had a lot to live up to, but the signs were promising - some of the most hyped releases for the first half of the year were set t ..read more

In the face of an uncertain future, Black Country deliver an experimental rock masterpiece for the ages. "As satisfying as this debut is, one of the most pleasing things about its teasing length and short structure is the space it leaves for Black Country to continue developing their wildly enigmatic style... If the results are as electrifying as this then Black Country will be a force to reckon with - judging by the gleeful anarchy and bold thirst for invention that defines this debut, For the first time could be a mere tune up for what’s to come." The above conclusion taken from my February ..read more
