By KYLE HIGHTOWER (AP Sports Writer) BOSTON (AP) — Jayson Tatum put his hands behind his head, with TD Garden fans standing on their feet cheering around him, and took it all in. Walking to the bench, he wrapped both arms around Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. The journey was complete. The Boston Celtics again stand alone among NBA champions. Tatum had 31 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, and the Celtics topped the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 on Monday night to win the franchise’s 18th championship, breaking a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most in league history. First, the Nuggets went two and ’que in the playoffs. Does that mean they are one-and-done when it comes to NBA titles? When the postseason began, Denver harbored aspirations of a dynasty. It has been the posture of the front office to take a macro view, focused on winning multiple crowns over a swath of time. There is no denying this wider-lens philosophy cost them in May. A thin bench, Jamal Murray’s erratic shooting and the disappearance of The Other Guys (Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon) conspired to gag away a 20-point lead in Game 7 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Denver’s NBA team might’ve featured only one more first-round draft pick in its ideal 2023-24 starting lineup than the college squad up the road. Four of the Nuggets’ five starters were former first-rounders (Nikola Jokic really holds them back), while the University of Colorado men’s basketball team often played a lineup with at least two future first-rounders. Perhaps as many as three. The exact number be determined June 26, the first day of the 2024 NBA Draft. So will the fate of Denver’s No. 28 overall pick. Nuggets Journal: Lakers coaching search went haywire with Dan Hurley rejection. What about David Adelman?
The Denver Post » Denver Nuggets

As I watched the Lakers whiff on UConn’s Dan Hurley last weekend in the latest chapter of a coaching search melodramatic enough to warrant a Hollywood screenplay, I kept wondering: What about David Adelman? Hurley’s candidacy emerged abruptly and escalated hastily. A cross-country flight to Los Angeles. A reported six-year, $70 million contract offer. Public comments to ESPN acknowledging his temptation to accept the job, and publicity stolen from the NBA Finals. Then ultimately, a rejection, with extension talks on deck in Connecticut. What just happened? Did the Lakers get played? How much o ..read more
