What else was I supposed to watch while Victory Sports One died a slow death?
At times here on Twinkie Town I’ve discussed my parallel fandom of the Minnesota Vikings. Sometimes football pulls slightly ahead—but baseball always resurfaces.
Yet, my MN sports devotion has never bled into the Minnesota Wild or Minnesota Timberwolves. On the hockey side I know why—a video of my fawn-legged ice skating routine from childhood is a staple of family comedic lore. But basketball? Well, the Wolves being “Kevin Garnett and absolutely nothing else” during most ..read more

“Do we call this a ‘Bo Derek’?” We do now.
(thanks to Minnesota1952 for providing the bank head — it’s like COTG, but better!)
Hey, how did Chicago die?
Thwarting nine tries, we beat those teams.
(The poor batting teams.)
We had ‘em quick and dead, and luck came
At the field and plate too
(And that’s rad!)
And we were plating many bushels of runs
While we ripped off a mad race;
We’d a team they thought was awful:
In fact, we took a short rest and began to score and scor ..read more

The Twins lineup’s timely hitting led to them winning their ninth straight game.
It was a back and forth battle but in the end the Twins had the last blow as they put together their 9th consecutive win.
The White Sox got the game’s first run in the 3rd inning, as Eloy Jimenez’s single scored Tommy Pham from 2nd. In the 4th, the Sox loaded the bases with 2 outs and Pham hit a ball to Carlos Santana at 1st, but he couldn’t handle it and a run scored on the error.
The Twins answered back with 2 runs in the 5th thanks to ..read more

The ol’ go-ahead-RBI-in-the-ninth-inning bat toss from Max Kepler. | Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports
A strong team pitching performance + late bats equal an eighth straight win
The Minnesota Twins only had two hits entering the ninth inning, but a strong pitching performance from Joe Ryan and the bullpen meant that they still had a chance to win with the heart of the lineup coming up. And that’s exactly what happened.
Max Kepler played hero by singling home Byron Buxton, who had led off the top of the ninth by lacing a double into the left field corner. Caleb Thielbar made things a bit inte ..read more

My, how the turntables have turned.
Just a week ago, I was previewing a Twins-White Sox series that featured two teams in the doldrums. Minnesota had lost six out of seven and was hoping that facing a then-3-19 Sox squad would serve as a catalyst for a hot streak.
That’s exactly what happened, with the Twins sweeping all four cont ..read more
