An enigmatic, Delphic Roberto De Zerbi took to the stage at the end of season Brighton Fans’ Forum in the huge Mayo Wynne Baxter Lounge at the Amex with his future the burning question amongst Albion supporters. And we are probably no closer to an answer with De Zerbi being particularly cryptic. At least I think he was being Delphic and cryptic. Sometimes, what De Zerbi says gets lost in his own translation. Or perhaps he really hasn’t made his mind up over whether he will be Brighton head coach next season. De Zerbi arrived tantalisingly late, just as host for the evening Johnny Cantor went o ..read more

Mixed signals is the best word to describe the Seagulls season so far. Entering European football was a major crossover achievement from last season. But, it revealed some hidden skeletons in the closet with a depleted squad marred with injuries. The loss of the midfield pivot of Caicedo and Mac Allister was a major gamble, given the uncertainty with their reinforcements. Taking a gamble with the youngster signings such as Adringra, Carlos Baleba, Joao Pedro, De Zerbi breathed a sigh of relief, and we now look to a new challenge in our fight for European Football this season. Sadly, the future ..read more

Putting 2024 so far in perspective for Brighton

It is very easy to feel all is doom and gloom with Brighton in 2024, particularly after the 3-0 loss away at Bournemouth. Defeat at the Vitality Stadium leaves the Albion on their worst run of Premier League form since the spring of 2022. The WAB report of Bournemouth 3-0 Brighton highlighted the sober reality of what 14 points in 15 matches means, saying: “Repeat that over an entire campaign and Brighton will be in severe danger of relegation. That is how bad things have become.” Roberto De Zerbi was equally downbeat in his post-match comments: “We are sorry for the performance but we are not ..read more

Despite bad results, Brighton must KBO – keep buggering on

Sir Winston Churchill used to have a rallying thought he delivered to friends, family and colleagues when things got tough… keep buggering on. He used it so frequently it soon become abbreviated to KBO. Churchill knew first hand as both a soldier and leader the dangers a defeatist mindset could inflict. He always did his best to lift morale. Churchill could famously inspire with his words alone. Those words encouraged millions of people to keep buggering on through the most difficult of times. Sunday afternoon at the Vitality Stadium was not what we expected as Brighton fans, was it? A 3-0 def ..read more

Lack of Plan B hurting Brighton in this difficult run of results

Brighton against Manchester City could have gone a couple of ways. The Albion might have surprised us with another one of their amazing results or left us admiring their effort in a gallant defeat. It was more of the latter than the former by the end. A 4-0 defeat for a heavily depleted Brighton side against the triple Premier League champions hoping to make history with a fourth successive title was no real surprise. Take a step back, dissect where we are and what has been achieved over the past few years and it is quite incredible. We are not doing badly if you really think about it. This ma ..read more

Chances increasing of Brighton keeping De Zerbi for 2024-25

Just a few short months ago, it seemed pretty unlikely that Roberto De Zerbi would remain as Brighton head coach going into the 2024-25 season. The Albion were in contention for another top six finish and fancying their chances of glory in both Europa League and FA Cup. Some of the biggest jobs in Europe were set to become available. De Zerbi was being linked strongly with almost all of them. And the Italian himself seemed to be paving the way for his own departure. His complaints about Brighton’s transfer work suggested here was a man who felt he had outgrown the Seagulls. Announcing that tal ..read more

It is Cancer Research UK and the Bobby Moore Fund’s Football Shirt Friday on April 26th 2024. Football fans across the UK are encouraged to wear their favourite football shirts, take a picture, share it on social media and donate to tackle bowel cancer. My favourite Brighton football shirt? Easy. The AC Milan inspired away number the Albion wore between 1999 and 2002. Why? Because it made supporting Brighton seem cool for the first time in years. Firstly, it was made by Errea. Everyone knows they were the best kit manufacturer the Albion have ever had. Custom-made designs rather than the same ..read more

Tens of thousands of words are spread across the internet dedicated to why the Albion’s results and performances have tailed off so much in recent months. But can it actually be summed up in just four? Kaoru Mitoma Brighton injury. There are plenty of good theories as to what has happened to Brighton. Europa League workload. Roberto De Zerbi rocking the boat with his public griping at the board. Selling Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo in the summer. Not signing a single first-team-ready reinforcement in January. And of course, injuries. 10 players are currently out of action. The treatm ..read more

As we approach the end of another season, the time comes to look at the army of players Brighton sent out on loan in the 2023-24 campaign. 20 individuals left the Amex for temporary spells elsewhere, covering either the whole or part of the season. Ibrahim Osman takes that total to 21, having signed for £16 million in February but spending the the remainder of the campaign with FC Nordsjaelland. Inevitably with the number of players involved, the variability of loan experiences and the different standards of football, it is a mixed picture. Generally though, goalkeepers and strikers have tende ..read more

Profit and sustainability rules and financial fair play. Those are the words which will dominate early talk of transfers this summer, offering Brighton and Tony Bloom a unique opportunity to strengthen their squad. Nottingham Forest and Everton have already been hit with points deductions. Chelsea FC Holdings controversially sold a hotel to their own parent company BlueCo to get £76.3 million onto the Blues’ balance book to comply with PSR. Leicester City are not even in the Premier League, yet will be in big trouble if they win promotion. Many other clubs are so close to breaking PSR that the ..read more
