Let’s make a deal!
Jaylon Thompson writes about the Royals storylines going into the Winter Meetings.
The Royals have earmarked pitchers Cole Ragans, Brady Singer and Jordan Lyles in the 2024 starting rotation. There are two spots available and a wealth of internal options that include Daniel Lynch IV, Kris Bubic, Alec Marsh and Angel Zerpa, among others. The starting rotation is a point of uncertainty.
The Royals would like to pursue a front-line starter to pair alongside Ragans. The Star previously outlined some realistic free-agent starters that could inter ..read more

Listen, it’s the holidays, things are quiet, let’s talk about something non-baseball for a minute
Before we dive into the list, I want to make it very clear that I have not yet seen The Marvels and if you post spoilers for it in the comments without using the spoiler tags I will immediately put you on ignore and you’ll never be able to irritate me with your comments again. Of course, spoiler warnings abound for literally ever ..read more

Who wants to tear down Kauffman Stadium?
Anne Rogers previews the Winter Meetings by highlighting Royals’ priorities.
The priority for the Royals is starting pitching, and they are willing to trade for a controllable starter or commit dollars in free agency for one. They’re looking for not only a pitcher who can give them innings, but also a No. 1 or No. 2 who can help solidify the rotation.
The Royals seem less likely to spend big free-agent money on a reliever, but rather to find smaller pieces like they did with Nick Anderson, who has ..read more

Do we have to?
It’s important for me to start this piece off by saying that I am generally not anti-stop gap. I have vocally defended guys like Michael A. Taylor, who receive the ire of fans when their real anger is at the organization. Taylor was a fine player for the money he received and did the job he was asked to do. That Taylor was asked to do that job is the organization’s fault, not his.
Jordan Lyles is that kind of stop-gap player. The Royals entered the 2022 offseason with three young arms in Brady Singer, Daniel Lynch, and Kris Bubic potentially in the ..read more

The Royals need to spend money one way or another.
The Royals desperately need to improve and while J.J. Picollo says they have around $30 million coming off the books, a 106-loss team isn’t the most attractive free agent destination. The Royals could still spend, however, by taking on contracts other teams may be looking to dump. It may sound unappealing to take on another team’s trash, but sometimes a change of scenery is just what a veteran needs to jumpstart their career. In 2013, the Royals sought to improve their pitching staff, and acquired an expensive ve ..read more

Hampson has been a veteran utility player.
