In front of a supportive standing room only crowd, the Fayette County Commission voted Thursday to file a lawsuit against Peachtree City Council to force a reopening of blocked Crabapple Lane. The council — at the request of some residents of Kedron Hills subdivision — more than two years ago blocked the road at the city limits so that both motor vehicles and golf carts could no longer access the road into the city. A man described by police as a professional criminal led officers on a high-speed chase last week from Peachtree City north nearly to I-85 before he was apprehended and charged with several felonies as well as about two dozen traffic violations. According to a Peachtree City Police spokesman, a K-9 officer on the northern end of the city encountered a black Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk, an extremely high-performance vehicle, with illegal window tinting and an out-of-state license plate. The Whitewater High duo of Olivia Ray and Emily Wagner are taking their expertise to the international stage. With a stellar showing at the state competition, they qualified for the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair. Developer Mike Hyde wants to build 23 homes split between two subdivisions in 52 acres on Peachtree City’s east side adjacent to the new Booth Middle School. To do that, he’s asking the City Council to bring his county land into the city, a process known as annexation. Council raises stormwater fees —  The Fayetteville City Council at the May 18 meeting unanimously approved a rezoning request to expand the Hampton Inn off Tiger Trail from 150 rooms to a proposed 208 rooms — an increase of 38% — and to allow construction of 30 multi-family units in a single building on that property. Inman Elementary 3rd graders in the class of Regina Stevens used the Glow Games to shine the light on key Reading/ELA concepts. Designed to increase student engagement, the room transformation presented a rigorous but fun review day of concepts from 3rd grade standards. Fifth grade students at Oak Grove Elementary lit up the school using Squishy Circuits. Squishy Circuits use playdough to teach the basics of electrical circuits. LED lights are placed inside of the playdough, then the wires are attached to a battery pack. Power travels through the conductive dough to turn on the lights.
