Chris Kavanagh is the man with the whistle this afternoon for our home game against Sheffield United and it will be his first Burnley game since our 2-0 home defeat against Leicester City in March last year. Manchester referee Kavanagh has previously refereed Burnley on fifteen occasions. It started with our 3-1 Championship win at Brentford in February 2016. All of the other fourteen games have come in the Premier League and it includes our one win in this league against today’s opponents Sheffield United. Former Burnley central defender Alex Whitmore left AFC Fylde yesterday and moved up the National League to join Solihull Moors. Whitmore has been with Fylde since for over four years since signing from Grimsby and captained the team that won their place in the National League last season. This season they are currently struggling in next to bottom place but his new club Solihull Moors are fourth and will be hoping for a potential first promotion to the Football League. Having completed the permanent transfer of Whitmore for an undisclosed fee, Moors manager Andy Whing said: “Alex is a player w ..read more

The transfer window closed virtually three months ago and during then early weeks of the season we were been busy adding players into new clubs in the Played for Both Clubs feature here on Up the Clarets. The feature lists all the players who have played for Burnley and each other club in turn during post-war football but only when those clubs were in the league. Players have needed to have played first team football for both clubs which is why you won’t see Adam Phillips, currently at Barnsley, on the list. Nor will you see Jack Cork included for Chelsea having never played for them, although ..read more

With Burnley in cup action only, there were four games played in the north group of the Professional Development League with the top two under-21 teams in the north group facing each other. Leaders Sheffield United kicked off with a five point lead at the top of the league, but that was reduced to two points following their 3-1 defeat against second place Birmingham at Solihull. Midfielder Sander Berge has enjoyed an excellent November with the Clarets despite us suffering defeat in all four games we have played in the month and again, in the West Ham game, he has won both the man of the match and the player ratings. It was a close run thing for the man of the match; he won 36% of the vote, just ahead of Luca Koleosho who had a 33% share. Jordan Beyer took third place with 9% while fourth place went the way of Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson with 7% of the vote. Three of those four players were in the top four places in the player ratings too. Again Berge won with a rating of ..read more

On a bitterly cold night at Leyland, as we took on Liverpool in the Lancashire Senior Cup, we kicked off our defence of the trophy with a 3-1 win against Liverpool. The game saw two early goals at the start of a drab first half but then an excellent second forty-five minutes in which we scored twice more to deservedly go through to the quarter-finals and an away tie against Everton. Andy Farrell was able to include two of the first team squad in his line up with summer signing Han-Noah Massengo lining up in midfield and Darko Churlinov, a summer 2022 signing, on the left wing and the two were ..read more

Following three successive league defeats wrapped around the FA Cup defeat against Darlington, Burnley were able to get back to winning ways in 1998 with a 1-0 home win against Blackpool. It was a difficult time for one family following a house fire in North Street that left eight-year-old Jenny Jones trapped in the blaze. But David Parkinson, aged 16, the girl’s cousin, was on hand and bravely went back in to rescue her. It left David in hospital where he said: “I could feel the heat through the kitchen and I could hear Jenny moaning. I got a little glimpse of her near the front window.” This ..read more
