Magnificent in Manchester

A Zeki Amdouni penalty around three minutes from the end of normal play won us a point yesterday from a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, but it could have been an even better result we were celebrating. Having gone behind around eight minutes earlier, we were suddenly staring defeat in the face and it would have been so unjust had we come away from Old Trafford with nothing to show from a performance that was as good as anyone could have ever dared hope. Substitute Amdouni was THE hero of the hour but we had heroes all over the pitch yesterday and had we won, it would have been fully deserv ..read more

Burnley have drawn 1-1 at Manchester United and now is your opportunity to vote for your man of the match. The winner in the last game, the 4-1 win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, was goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, but who is your choice from this game? As in previous seasons, the top four in the vote will win points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year as will the players who finish in the top four places in the player ratings on the message board. This vote is now underway and will close at the end of Tuesday. It can be found below and, if viewing the desktop version of the si ..read more

Tomorrow’s game against Manchester United will be refereed by John Brooks in what will be his first Burnley game of this 2023/24 season although he was recently involved in a controversial decision given against us. That was the penalty awarded to Chelsea against us by Darren England and the subsequent second yellow card for Lorenz Assignon, decisions PGMOL have now confirmed were incorrect. Brooks was the VAR official that day who astonishingly backed England’s bizarre decision. Embed from Getty ImagesIn terms of refereeing us, it will be just the third time. He took charge of our 0-0 draw at ..read more

Having beaten Swansea on Tuesday of this week, the under-21s are back in action tomorrow when Bristol City are the visitors to the County Ground at Leyland. That win at Swansea restored our sixth place position in the northern group of the Professional Development League and with four games to play, we’ll be hoping to potentially move up a couple of places in the table by the time we complete our fixtures. Bristol City are not having quite so good a season and currently sit next to bottom in the south group, ahead only of Colchester although they ended a run of three defeats this week when the ..read more

Goalkeeper Arijanet Muric and midfielder Sander Berge were the two players who stood out in last Saturday’s 4-1 win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane with them taking the top two places in the man of the match and the player ratings. The man of the match vote was so close with the two swapping places constantly until the vote closed with Muric on top. He won 40% of the vote with former Blade Berge not far behind with a 39% share. Lorenz Assignon, who scored his first Burnley goal before then getting an assist, came third with 13% and Josh Cullen, with just 2% of the vote, claimed fourth ..read more

One defeat and one victory in the last week has seen the Clarets remain in sixth place in the Professional Development League but the three team battle at the top continues today with the Steel City derby. Going into this next set of fixtures, Birmingham are top of the league on 52 points. Behind them are the two Sheffield clubs, both of them one point behind the leaders. However, it’s the games played that is key. Birmingham have just two to play, Sheffield Wednesday have three remaining but Sheffield United, who must be clear favourites again, still have five to play. Sheffield United won tw ..read more

Goalscoring return for Tioffo

Burnley’s under-18s beat Cardiff City 3-1 at Gawthorpe last Saturday. Our first goal was scored by under-16 Fabio So, his first at this level, and the second was a penalty taken by Benji Wetshi. The third came close to the end, from another penalty which was scored by Ryan Tioffo who had come on as a substitute with twenty minutes to go in the game. Now aged eighteen and in the second year of his scholarship, his previous goal had come in October 2022 against Birmingham and he was a player who had all but disappeared having not played in some considerable time. This game last Saturday was his ..read more

The under-21s got back to winning ways this afternoon, beating the very much in form Swansea City 2-1 at their Landore training ground. Ahead of kick off, the two teams paid tribute to Leighton James. He’d be just a name to those on the pitch but the tribute will have been very much appreciated by the supporters of the two clubs who meant so much to him. Swansea appeared to have the better of the opening exchanges but it was the Clarets who went in front from the penalty spot in the 19th minute. It remained at 1-0 through to half time. Just five minutes into the second half and Swansea were le ..read more
