Maddie and Tae Still Have The Best Response To The Bros
Southern Cinephile

Bros, remember when mama taught us to always treat a lady with respect? What happened to y’all? We went from that irresistible country gentleman to rather creepy and pervy. Now I know we are males and we love our pretty girls but they seem to be tired of the catcalling and whistling. So it’s about time we started listening to them, wouldn’t want mama to find out.  In 2014, Maddie and Tae released the best response to Bro-country that I have ever seen. Girl in a Country Song is Maddie and Tae reminding us that girls are way more than “pretty little thing” and they are tired of being treate ..read more

Acrylic Review

Creating your first game is a major accomplishment and something that should be commended but with many firsts, it’s not always the most polished. This is what the RPG Maker game Acrylic faces and I want to take a look at that today. My hope is that the developer will see this and improve on the game because there is something special here.  Acrylic is a horror-themed game about an art student named Nicole, who accompanied by her sister Joelle, visits her school to retrieve her portfolio. Little do both girls know that at night the dark secrets of Acrylic Academy make themselves known.&nb ..read more

Letter To Country Radio
Southern Cinephile

Dear Country Radio,  We have known each other ever since I was a young buck discovering the brilliance of country music. Those were some of the best years of my life as you introduced me to so many names that have managed to shape who I am. I even ignored those who criticized you for not being true to who you are. I thought those individuals did not know what they were talking about because they didn’t know you as I did. Yet over the years, I began to notice that those naysayers were right about you. I noticed the change what you said you represented, I was crushed. How could something I ..read more

Glad You Made It Album Review

It was 2019 when Joshua Ray Walker released his first album Wish You Were Here and like a dummy, I overlooked his work. Not today though with his release of Glad You Made It, as I am currently on my fifth listen as I type this review. I’m ashamed that I didn’t discover Joshua back when he released his first album because this Texan is rivaling the greats from the past.  Joshua’s music hits hard as he tells stories of fictional characters that we can all relate to. However, we also notice that each song has autobiographical elements in them. This makes Walker’s music human and that’s what ..read more

Lady Antebellum Hate Train

For the purpose of this article, I will be referring to Lady A as Lady Antebellum. This is in hopes that I can prove my point in regards to the current hate train taking place.  Unless you have been living under a rock, the U.S. has been going through a much needed historical event since the death of George Floyd. We have been seeing celebrities share their thoughts on the current climate and Lady Antebellum are no strangers.  On June 11, Lady Antebellum decided to change their name as a response to the injustices and it received positive and negative attention. I personally saw no n ..read more

So, besides Country music and Film, I enjoy RPG Maker games. I couldn’t get enough of them back in high school and that love managed to stick with me even today. That’s why I am going to start gushing about them here too. Now chances are you have played or at least know about RPG Maker games and there is no real reason for me to go into them. If you do not know what they are; they are games made with the RPG game maker engine. There are a plethora of these games ranging from crap to masterpieces. The best part is a lot of them are free and you don’t need a high-end gaming pc to play them. Yes ..read more

10 Favorite Films
Southern Cinephile

Well over the last several posts I have really shown that I’m more Southern than I am a Cinephile. I just haven’t sat down to watch a film in a while as I have been preoccupied with other things. To correct this, I’m going to start this off with a favorites list. Ranking my favorite films is far easier than ranking my favorite Country artists anyway.  Now for this list don’t expect a huge paragraph about why I love each of these films, as I plan to actually go in more depth with a review/analysis one day. I’m just gonna give a sentence or two that sums up what’s so special about them in m ..read more

10 Male Country Artists You Should Be Listening To
Southern Cinephile

I always love recommending new artists I come across to other people, especially those who claim to not like country. My belief is that maybe this one will be the one that gets them hooked. I have mixed results with that, but positive results when it has come to other fans of country. If you have read any of my other posts you know I have strong opinions on Country radio and I have plenty of friends and family who do as well. They end up coming to me for some recommendations or they just don’t know I have plenty to give out. To avoid repeating myself constantly I’m going to create two differen ..read more

Eric Church Preaching With Fire and Brimstone in His Latest Single

Kevin Winter/Getty Images for NARAS The battle rages on as country artists demand that country music return to its roots and leading that charge is none other than the Chief. Eric Church released a new single titled Stick That in Your Country Song and he’s not holding back. We got a bunch of artists who have lost their way and care more about making it to the top of the charts, rather than singing country music. Country music is about life and the issues we all face. Yet artists are shying away from that, either out of fear of being blacklisted or fading into obscurity. Eric wants these people ..read more

Taking a Look At: Why I Still Believe in Fairy Tales

Tammy Wynette, 1978. Photo: © Norman Seeff Let me tell you about one of my all-time favorite country songs. ‘I Still Believe in Fairy Tales’ is a song by the great Tammy Wynette. The song is a tragic story about a woman who seeks her “happily ever after” only to have it ripped away. This is not new for Tammy as she is known for songs that have themes involving marriage and divorce. Reba McEntire released her song ‘Tammy Wynette kind of Pain’ last year (listen to “Stronger than the Truth” album…no seriously listen to it. It’s good.) and if that ain’t enough to describe Tammy’s music, I don’t kn ..read more
