This is an update from our sustainable-home-article from November 30, 2017
Can’t it be more sustainable? A question many of our Green PearlsⓇ partners ask themselves all the time. As a result, hotels and resorts have implemented a variety of measures to reduce electricity, water and heating costs, as well as waste and CO₂ emissions. Many of these measures can also be implemented at home! The beauty is that it often only takes one step to live greener for many years to come.

In the age of streaming services, on-demand content and personal smart devices, what will happen to the good old hotel televisions in the rooms? In the past, it was a MUST and one of the minimum requirements for a 1-star hotel. But it is clear that the standard hotel room TV is no longer up to date. While some accommodations are now upgrading the in-room entertainment system, more and more hotels and vacation rentals are removing the television in rooms. A decision that turns the entire interior design upside down.

The thermometer on my desk is reading 28°C right now. If I had an air conditioner, I would probably turn it on right now. On the other hand… Maybe it’s a good thing I don’t. At least for the environment. But how do hotels, which always want (and need) to make their guests as comfortable as possible, do it? In the face of global warming, more and more sustainable accommodations are doing away with climate-damaging systems and cool without air conditioning – sometimes in surprising ways!
Why air conditioning is bad for the environment
Air conditioners use a greenhouse gas refrigerant that ..read more

Have you come across the term lunar wood or moon-phased wood and been wondering about what it is? If so, you’re just like us! Fortunately, some Green Pearls® partners were able to help us out and reveal what lunar wood is about, and most importantly, what it has to do with sustainability.
What is moon timber?
The forest calendar considers the phases of the moon when harvesting lunar wood. Wood harvested in this way is said to be particularly strong, longer lasting, harder, more resistant to cracking, and also fire and pest resistant. History of this wood goes back to the Celts. In Japa ..read more

Being outdoors in greenery and breathing fresh air is good for us. We all know that. Among other things because from an early age on we hear it over and over again. However, in our everyday lives today, we spend a lot of our time indoors. So, why don’t you just bring the healthy nature into your house for a good climate.
What can the “green decoration” do? Plants as an oxygen supplier
Air you exhale contains carbon dioxide (Co2). If the level in the indoor air gets too high, your concentration suffers. To be able to concentrate, but also for many other functions of the body, sufficient ..read more

For more and more of us, living in the city is the norm. Globally, it is already more than half of the entire population. And the trend is on the rise. At the same time, we are developing a growing environmental awareness and a desire to live in a way that is as climate-friendly as possible.
Both together result in a major challenge that not only the fast-growing Asian, African and Latin American metropolises are facing, but also the European and North American cities. Thus, many urban developers (and ourselves) are looking at the task of making the growing urban spaces sustainable.
