I Walked All Night is an ultra-rare, proper-catchy, garage track written by Nashville session pianist/keyboardist, Hargus “Pig” Robbins. Originally recorded for in the early 1960’s for Murray Nash’s own Do-Ra-Me label, the song has since been covered by The Cramps(1997), Lowell Fulson (1975), Mighty Joe Young (1971) and The Bluetones (2006). The Embers (1960’s) version is pretty impossible to track down, although it is available on the 1993 album “El Primitivo/American Rock’N’Roll & Rockabilly.  This compilation of 24 rockabilly tracks was first recorded in the late 50’s/early 60’s u ..read more

SONG OF THE DAY Al Manfredi – To Catch The Sun

When it comes to eclectic taste in music (a penchant I wholly appreciate) you can’t really go wrong with the song choices of Now-Again’s Egon! I can’t profess to loving everything he shares and reissues, but I am always more than willing to listen to what he has to play and love how a lot of music I have stumbled upon over the years often crops up in his playlist! Today’s song appeared in an old playlist of his that I found and comes courtesy of Al Manfredi and his band, The Lost And Found. Real name, Albert T. Manfredi, this artist was recording music whilst still in his teenage years, but a ..read more

SONG OF THE DAY Belfast Gypsies – Secret Police

How has it been that in ALL the years that I’ve been listening to psychedelic sounds, I’ve never come upon this song! I have no idea, but I couldn’t help but share this garage delight today! The Belfast Gypsies’ career lasted just over a year, but their history was remarkably complex for a group so short-lived. In 1965, the members of the great Irish R&B band Them were feuding, leading them to split into two factions. Both versions of the group were touring the U.K. as Them until a legal decision gave Van Morrison’s version the rights to the name. However, those rights ..read more

A nice little bit of bedtime chaos never goes a miss and what better way to greet the world of slumber than with a bit of Ty Segall! Forgive my relatively brief post tonight, but this artist needs little explanation and if you do want to read/hear more, you can do this on my pages, here! Pretty Baby (Your’e So Ugly) appears on Segall’s 2009 second album, Lemons. Perfectly orchestrated around his signature DIY ethics, the album was released by Goner Records – and happened to be his first album on Gonor Records. Most of the instruments on the record are played by Segall and this glorious one-ma ..read more

SONG OF THE DAY YOBS – Fortune Teller

I dare say strong coffee and lots of this song played on repeat are not exactly conducive to bedtime prep, but I love it and love how this band reminds of one of my all-time favourite bands, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster. Hailing from Liverpool, YOBS are a four-piece made up of Joey Ackland (Vocals), Alex Smith (Bass/Vocals), Michael Quinlan (Guitar/Vocals) and George Gebbie (Drums). Pieced together from the fragmented parts of Liverpool bands, Weird Sex (Roadkill Records) and Ohmns, YOBS have been together a year or so now. After signing to Fuzz Club Records, their dubut single arriv ..read more

Winter’s clutches may still be upon us, but I’m willing to wager a hefty amount that when you press play, the (sonic) sunbeams of this lightweight dream will cast a sun-drenched glow upon you! Hailing from New Zealand, but now residing in Auckland, Joe Ghatt is a creator of all things psychedelic, jangly and garage rock. It’s been five years since the release of his debut album, Banana Sludge, but in a few months time its long-awaited follow-up will be available. Due for release on June 14th via Third Eye Stimuli Records, Echodelick Records (USA) and Six Tonnes de Chair (FR), Caper has b ..read more

I’d love to be able to roll my tongue like they do in this song! Today I present to you a jolly little number from the early 1970’s called Mala, Mala (Bad, Bad)! Featuring on a record entitled Para Hacer Música, Para Hacer... (translating as To Make Music, To Make…) I’m loving the addition of those handclap embellishments and the occasional joyous yelp here and there! Issued in 1971 on an Uruguayan label called Sondor, this record was the only full-length offering Miguel y el Comite released. Hailing from Uruguay, this band traded in all things psychedelic rock and band members included, Cach ..read more

SONG OF THE DAY The Vampires – Memphis Underground

There aren’t many occasions when a cover can equal or, perhaps, slightly outdo the original, but today’s song comes close to both! Originally recorded by Herbie Mann and featuring as the title track to his 1969 record, Memphis Underground (listen below), this groovy rendition was recorded two years later by a band called The Vampires. The Vampires were a quintet of Indian expats from Durban in South Africa who made weird, fuzzy psych-out garage tracks with plenty of funky flute! They played covers, but covers that don’t really sound like the originals, including tracks by the likes of Wilson ..read more

SONG OF THE DAY The Migs – Pretty Ricky

One of the things that makes me so fond of anything garage-rock (albeit past or present) is the rawness! No frills, no overproduction, no need!! Just a wilderness of twangy guitars and lost minds! I’ve had a couple of The Migs’ songs in a few playlists for a while now, but after hearing them again today and realising they had never made it to the LP pages, I knew that had to change!! Hailing from (or, at the time based in) New Hampshire, US, The Migs are something of a mysterious bunch! Coming together just over a decade ago, some of their earliest recordings on their Bandcamp page dates back ..read more

The Wailers were a rock’n’roll garage band that formed in the late 1950’s. Though they underwent various band member changes over the years, they maintained a reputation as being one of the hottest rock bands to emerge from the Pacific Northwest. They got together whilst at high school in 1959 and were soon snatched up and signed to Golden Crest Records. When they first started out the band were led by John Greek after he founded the group in 1957, but by 1960 following some tension with other members, Greek left and was replaced by bassist Buck Ormsby. Together, with Kent Morrill, these two ..read more
