We’ve photographed every type of wedding you could imagine. And in terms of size, we’ve photographed weddings with just the two people getting married present, right up to huge celebrations with 500 guests. But which do we prefer? Well, we love all types of weddings. Each one is unique – each one so very different to the last. So we have to say, we love them all. We love the colourful chaos of a huge wedding, getting lost on the dance floor in a sea of people. However, we also love those smaller weddings. Why we love smaller weddings We love the intimacy these smaller weddings can bring. That ..read more

This Is Reportage Photographer Of The Year
M And G Wedding Photography

We’ve been entering This Is Reportage (TIR) since its inception. We love what TIR stands for: the very best in documentary wedding photography. Authentic, real moments – but it’s much, much more than that. TIR shows that wedding photography is art – and that is perfectly aligned with what we believe. We’ve won many awards over the years – but this award stands out as the most important, the most meaningful. TIR awards are so incredibly hard to win – the hardest to win documentary wedding photography awards there are. Therefore, they are incredibly prestigious. So, to be the the overall photogr ..read more

London to Bath (and back again) – a photo essay
M And G Wedding Photography

“Are you nervous?” “Are you excited?” “What’s it going to be like?”  These are some of the twenty or so messages we were sent by other wedding photographers before we photographed this beautiful London to Bath elopement. There’s never been so much interest from other photographers about a wedding before we’d photographed it. We’ve often photographed weddings where the couple was an artist or a creative – film makers, directors, photographers, playwrights, musicians, art directors – but this was actually only the second time we’d photographed a fellow wedding photographer.   ..read more

Hi, I’m Hollie – one half of The Mateers. I work alongside my husband, Patrick. We’re documentary photographers and we love capturing weddings together, in our unique style. This blog is all about me! How I got into photography, what I love about being a photographer, what I love about weddings. Plus, a little bit about me away from photography, too. First of all though a run down some of my likes – those little idiosyncrasies that make me, ‘me’. As a child I dreamed of working with animals and used to have a decent, encyclopaedia-like knowledge of them (and dinosaurs!) I love sleep – and sin ..read more

We absolute loved photographing Rebecca and Ryan’s Saltmarshe Hall wedding. What a day! Relaxed getting ready, a beautiful outdoor ceremony in the Rose Garden and then a party that lasted all day and all night. Saltmarshe Hall is one of our favourite local venues and we always love the opportunity to go back and photograph another amazing wedding there. Ryan and Rebecca had the most wonderful wedding – and they absolutely loved the photos we took for them: “The images you’ve taken are fantastic. They have made us feel so emotional and laugh so much all at the same time. We can’t thank you enou ..read more

Our statement on AI in wedding photography
M And G Wedding Photography
by Patrick

As of today and at the time of the publication of this blog, we do not currently use artificial intelligence (AI) in the editing of our wedding photography. During post processing, some minimal ‘cloning’ may be used to remove distracting elements on a small amount of images (we view image specific cloning as an extension of the dark room technique of ‘dodging and burning’). However, we do not currently feel comfortable in using AI in our editing work flow. We have recently tried using ‘AI’ techniques in our editing on a small selection of images. However, through experimentation, we have found ..read more
