Why do Serger (Overlocker) Seams pull Apart?

Sergers are an amazing asset. They finish seams, cut off excess fabric and do it all quickly (much quicker than my sewing machine anyway). A serger upped my sewing game, and I had no idea how much I would love having this machine. I only sew for my immediate family so I kept convincing myself a serger wasn’t worth the money for me since my seams didn’t need to look perfect. For Christmas by husband was bugging me to tell him what I wanted. I’m usually a very practical person but honestly couldn’t think of a single practical thing that I wanted. I happened to be on Amazon and saw the Brother 10 ..read more

A rolled hem is a type of hem designed to encase raw edges of fabric that would otherwise fray. It uses a curve in the foot to double fold the raw edge of the fabric before the needle stitches the hem. It is designed for use on very light weight fabrics. Using a rolled hem foot makes your final hem look so clean, but can take a little practice. Once you master how to sew with a rolled hem foot, hemming light weight woven fabrics will be a breeze! Don’t have expectations So first thing is I never have expectations to get completely finished with a project in one day. It usually can take me three or four days or so to finish one project. Best Way to Gather Fabric
Brooke Starts Sewing

Gathering fabric is a method that reduces the length of a piece of fabric, to allow a longer piece of fabric to be attached to a shorter one. It is a technique I have discovered is not explained in most sewing patterns. They usually just say “gather your fabric to the width of you bodice” (or whatever else you may be gathering to). Today I will discuss the best way to gather fabric, or rather the 3 best ways to gather it! This post contains some affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Each method is my favorite in its own way, depending on the situation ..read more

(At no additional cost to you) Most sewing Machines come with a standard sewing foot and on my Brother CS6000i this was the “J” foot. This foot works well for many things, but when it comes to great seams with knit (stretchy) fabrics is there a better option? From the title of today’s post I’m sure you are assuming the answer is yes, and you would be correct. You want a walking foot for sewing knit fabric. Last year Is when I started sewing.
