Delta State University Welcomes Elementary Students After Fire Evacuation
Thursday, April 11, 2024, started as a typical school day for the elementary students at Hayes Cooper Center (HCC) in Merigold, Mississippi, until it took an unfortunate turn. According to Cleveland School District Superintendent Dr. Lisa Bramuchi, at 7:25 a.m. that morning, a fire started in one classroom and affected another, injuring two teachers.

USM Brothers Earn Fellowships to Prestigious MIT Program
Kaitochukwu and Otitodilichukwu Chukwuka, twin brothers and undergraduate polymer science students at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM), have been awarded fellowships to the prestigious MIT Summer Research Program (MSRP).

Run for the Roses and Barrel Racing… May Events to Support Organ Transplant Awareness
The first Saturday in May kicks off one of two local events to raise money and awareness for organ donations and transplants.
The Run for the Roses Gala begins at 6 p.m. on Sat., May 4, at The Warehouse venue located at the end of DeVaughan Road in Agricola. Two weeks later, on May 18, the 5D Barrell Racing event starts at 9 a.m. at the George County Multi-Purpose Arena on Mississippi 63 south of Lucedale.

Terri Bohannon Named East Central High School Parent of the Year
Terri Bohannon of Hurley has been selected East Central High School (ECHS) Parent of the Year.
Bohannon has been a volunteer in the East Central School District since 2020 when her youngest child was in middle school. For the past four years she’s been a member of the PTO and served as a board member for the 2022/2023 school year, and she also volunteers at ECHS where her daughter Cassidy is a sophomore.

MSU Sets New Records with MAB Excellence in Broadcasting Awards
Mississippi State claimed numerous honors at the recent Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Excellence in Broadcasting Awards, with the University Television Center taking a record 11 first place awards and its fourth consecutive Achievement Award.
