Great Original Comic Art was sold in the first three months of 2023, so I thought it was time to dust off one of the most popular kind of articles published on this website: the seasonal highest prices top 10. eBay for many (not for me), is the home of lower quality original comic art. In the last three months, while searching for new pieces to publish in the Original Comic Art Tips newsletter, I found many top-quality pages, sold for prices not common on eBay. It’s no secret between Original Comic Art collectors that published pages drawn by Walt Simonson are almost impossible to find on the market. All of the original art returned to Mr. Simonson are still with him, the few pages in private collections are usually part of the quota given to inkers. Art both penciled and inked by him, for this reason, is even more difficult to find. Yesterday the auction for #20 of 60 “Batman by Gaslight” drawn by, you guessed it, Jim Lee, ended for more than $14,000, so it’s time for a second recap.
