DULUTH, Minn.- Bob Rients has achieved a lot of accolades during his time as the head coach of the UMD baseball team. And on Thursday, he added another impressive feat to his resume. Following the Bulldogs 14-13 extra inning win over St. Cloud State, Rients reached career win number 400. Rients is just the second Bulldog head coach to get to 400 victories, joining Scott Hanna. He’ll have a bit of work to do if he catches up to the man known as Honey Bear. Hanna finished with 550 career wins as the Bulldogs head coach. Duluth Union Members Bring Attention To Truck Hitting 40th Ave. West Bridge.

Last week a truck hit a bridge in Duluth, and Friday union workers held signs outside the offices of the non-union company that owned the truck. Members of Teamsters General Local Union 346 gathered Friday morning at the offices of the Kaski Inc. construction company. It was one of Kaski’s drivers and trucks that hit the bridge crossing the freeway at 40th Avenue West. The incident happened last Thursday, and the bridge has remained closed since then for inspection and a repair plan. Partially Collapsed Apartment Building Update

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Following the partial building collapse and gas leak Thursday at the Franklin Apartments in Superior, nearly all tenants have been allowed to return to their apartments. However, a building engineer reported that the collapse may have damaged the support structure under two apartments, and now a third apartment has been added. The collapsed section needs to be cleared of debris so that it can be checked for structural damage. ESKO, Minn.- Esko and Hermantown each proved their strength on the diamond on Thursday as they each put their undefeated records on the line. Esko defeated Proctor 7-3, improving to 4-0 in 2024. The defending state champions were scheduled to face Duluth Marshall on Friday, but that game has been postponed. Meanwhile, Proctor (2-1) will be in Maple Grove on Friday to face Rock Ridge.
