HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. The family of Alexander "Alex" Mackiewicz, the teen who was struck and killed on his way to school earlier this month, is speaking out for the first time since his death.
His mother, Victoria Cegielski, invited Denver7 into their home and expressed gratitude to the thousands of people she said have been reaching out during this unimaginable time.
"Its a lot, when you see everybody unites and does something to ease your pain at least a little bit... the support we received is humongous," she said.

DENVER The family of a Highlands Ranch boy killed on his way to school earlier this month pleaded Thursday that more be done to prevent traffic-related deaths in Colorado.
Alexander Alex Mackiewicz, 13, was struck and killed by a driver while on his way to school on March 6.
The suspect, 52-year-old Ruben Morones, allegedly ran the red light at the intersection that the boy was crossing on his way to school when Morones fatally struck him, according to investigators.

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. Loved ones on Tuesday said their final goodbyes to Alexander "Alex" Mackiewicz, a Highlands Ranch seventh-grader who was killed on his way to school.
Mackiewicz, 13, was riding his OneWheel (a single-wheel electric skateboard) just before 7 a.m. on March 6 when a driver struck and killed him as he was crossing the intersection of Venneford Ranch Road and Highlands Ranch Parkway.

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. A driver was arrested for alleged careless driving one week after a crash that killed a Highlands Ranch seventh-grader.
Alexander "Alex" Mackiewicz, 13, was riding a OneWheel (a single-wheel electric skateboard) just before 7 a.m. on March 6 when a driver struck and killed him as he was crossing the intersection of Venneford Ranch Road and Highlands Ranch Parkway.

STEM School Highlands Ranch won $12,000 as the state champions in Samsung's "Solve for Tomorrow" STEM competition.
Students in grades sixth through 12th were asked to create innovative solutions to critical issues in their communities.
The team from STEM School Highlands Ranch is made up of students Siddhi Singh, Dhriti Sinra, Robyn Ballheim and Bri Scoville, led by their teacher, Mr. Chacon. They call themselves the Rubber Duckies.

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. A memorial car cruise is being planned Sunday to remember 13-year-old Alex Mackiewicz, a Highlands Ranch seventh-grader killed at an intersection last week.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. A man was arrested after allegedly attacking a woman and trying to break into cars in Highlands Ranch on Tuesday evening.
Just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an armed man attacking a woman in the parking lot of a business along the 9300 block of Dorchester Street in Highlands Ranch.
