CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Mo. — Four kayakers in Christian County are safe and on dry land Saturday after needing a water rescue from James River at the Delaware Town Access Point earlier in the afternoon.   Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole said one person made it safely onto a bank and the other three were clinging to a log when first responders were able to rescue them.  Sheriff Cole said the water this weekend is high and dangerous, and these kayakers were fortunate to have no major injuries.   “It's absolutely a miracle that they're still alive,” Sheriff Cole said. “Not to mention ..read more

(AP) — Tornadoes killed at least four people in Oklahoma and left thousands without power Sunday after a destructive outbreak of severe weather flattened buildings in the heart of one rural town and injured dozens of people. The Gorillas dominated and swept the Broncos winning game one, 10-2, in 5 innings and won game two, 5-2. GIRARD, Kan. — Some local first responders participated in a unique training exercise, today. It's grain engulfment rescue training - offered by the University of Kansas Fire and Training Institute - at the Girard Fire Department. It simulates a situation of rescuing a person entrapped in a grain bin. Several individuals volunteered to be trapped in a much smaller grain bin - while first responders used special equipment to get them out as quickly and efficiently as possible. MIAMI, Okla. — A Miami organization continues to honor the sacrifice of veterans - nationwide. Members of American Legion Post 147 held a groundbreaking - today - for a new veterans memorial brick garden that will be constructed on the grounds of the military museum.
